    Hello,

previously (not sure when it stopped working), lightbox image galleries supported using youtube links in the alt text.
In such case, opening up the image would actually show a youtube preview and clicking on that preview would play the video.

It seems this no longer works and I would really like to reenable this feature.
I think I might have found a way some years ago by browsing the forums and that I’ve overwritten those changes when updating the theme, however I can no longer find the posts that describe these required changes.

Any help would be very much appreciated,
    Hans

    Hey hans_w,

    Thank you for the inquiry.

Where did you add the video link in the gallery? This is not possible by default using the default gallery element.

Have you tried adding a separate button element with the video URL as link? This should automatically open that video inside a lightbox container.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hey Ismael,
    thanks for your fast response.
The video link is added as an alt text to the first image in the gallery in the link I previously included.
If you open up the first image in that gallery, and run the inspector on you’ll see the alt text youtube link.
As mentioned this has worked for years, but I am not sure if that was out of the box or after some modifications, but about the fact that it has worked in the past I am 100% sure ;).

Hope that any of the devs know what I am referring to, since I can’t find it in the forums anymore.

    best,
    Hans

ps when adding the same link in the button, the lightbox functionality works just fine, but that is not what I am looking for.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the clarification.

You may need to move the video link inside caption field of the image instead of the alternate text field. You can edit the image caption and other info in the Media > Library panel. Example of a caption with a Youtube link.

    This is a caption with a video <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCNu_vJNLMQ">link</a>

However, please note that this will open the video in a different tab, not inside a lightbox container.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,

ah too bad that you don’t know the answer, maybe someone else knows, what you propose is not a workable solution.
I’ll switch to the easy image slider instead or an advanced layer slider, that might be easier.

    best,
    Hans

can you try to use the gallery on link settings as: “use custom link – fall back is image”
then insert to that image you try to load the youtube video ( with watch! : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCNu_vJNLMQ ) and insert it on custom-link field.:

And look if that is the way to have it.

    #1350599

    Hey,
thanks both! I tried that, but that prevents the lightbox from working.
Using the easyslider I got it to work exactly the way I wanted to except that the preview ‘images’ are small circles instead of actual thumbnails, but I can live with that. Little bit more work to configure everything correctly but I can live with that.

    Thanks,
    Hans

Have you checked this out, or are you just guessing?

    Hi,
no I actually tested it on this url.
Are there other changes I might need to make?

For me it actually says this:
    first_thumb custom_link aviaopeninbrowser noLightbox
but I don’t see any way to change that noLightbox to something else.

    best,
    Hans

First of all : do not enter the url with ?iframe=true
    try that first
it is working with your gallery too ( big image – thumbnails below ) – see example page above.

And this is setting under Advanced Tab?

can you try to use the gallery on link settings as: “use custom link – fall back is image”

and btw: if you add some attributes after a youtube ID – the first one gets a question-mark – and than all others an ampersand!

    ________

this list is a bit confusing – that is right.
maybe it will be better if there is:

    1) Lightbox active and opens the image link
    2) Lightbox active and opens the custom link (fallback is image link)
    3) Lightbox is inactive and will open the image link in same browser window
    4) Lightbox is inactive and will open the image link in new window/tab
    5) no link at all – just gallery

    #1350617

ah yeah sorry that was still in there from all my tinkering and experimenting, I’ve removed it now.
My settings are indeed exactly the same as what you propose, big image/thumbnails below, use custom link etc.
In other words, only option 1 gives me a lightbox, option 2 (which it is currently set to) does not.

    #1350620

these two classes : aviaopeninbrowser noLightbox will only be there if you choose the 3rd or 4th option.
so if you got caching tools – refresh all caches you have. If you have js and css merging on enfold active – refresh them too.

    #1350621

So weird, I’ve disabled all plugins, cleared all caches, in browser, on hosting providers site, in enfold and I keep getting the noLightbox thing.
Thanks for your help so far, I’ll keep investigating.

    #1350622

you are still on Enfold 4.8.3 can you try the newest one? 4.9.2.2
maybe with a fallback to your old enfold – Look: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/update-procedure-with-easy-rollback/#post-922839

    #1350630

Oh yes! That fixed it, that you so much for you tenacity!
Amazing, I extended my support subscription, after which a kriesi moderator tells me it is not possible what I want to do and you stick at it and help me fix my problem, of what is apparently out of the box functionality which was broken in the enfold version I had :). Maaan, spent so many hours on this haha, I hope the mods take note, I can’t be the only one having this issue!
Weird thing was that I had checked the version, even linked my envato key and it said it was up to date, only after you mentioned it I realized that part of the plugin was apparently also broken.
(i fixed it on staging, i’ll push it to live in a bit).

    Thanks again big time!

It’s great that it worked out after all. However, I will now remove my example page.
