Hi!
We have a strange phenomenon with a website: between two languages the layout (and also the source code) differs, although we use the translation editor and thus – except for the language strings – the layout should be completely identical!
Interestingly, this is only the case in the French version, the English version looks like the basic version (German). Also the theme settings are identical, I checked that twice.
Maybe it has something to do with special characters?

February 2, 2022 at 5:12 am #1338354Hi,
Thank you for the inquiry.
Looks like the FR version has been set to use the default editor instead of the Advance Layout Builder (ALB). Would you mind checking the FR page and make sure that it is using the ALB? If you are getting redirected to the default translation editor, you may need to delete the translated FR page, trash it, then translate the DE page again.
Best regards,
IsmaelFebruary 2, 2022 at 12:10 pm #1338438Using the translation editor there is no way to select “Use ALB” like when editing a page directly. This setting seems to be copied on all pages from the base language version of the page but not on two or three pages, like the FR frontpage linked in “private content”.
February 2, 2022 at 12:17 pm #1338443It looks like it helped to first move the corresponding page to the trash (i.e. delete it) and to click “Restore” afterwards…?!
This leads to another problem: the slug (URL) for this page is gone and from now on the query URL with page ID is used. :-(
Saving the permalinks does not fix this.- This reply was modified 2 years, 9 months ago by 48DESIGN.
February 3, 2022 at 8:39 am #1338631Hi,

You should not use the ALB directly on translated pages. Always use the default translation editor to adjust the text of the existing elements in the original page. When editing a translated page, it will display ALB at first but will then redirect to the default translation editor. That is where you have to translate and adjust the content of the page.
Please check this documentation for more info on how to properly translate pages using WPML.

IsmaelFebruary 3, 2022 at 11:04 am #1338653Thanks for your answer but I know how to translate posts/pages (by using the translation editor).
This is exactly the problem: I don’t edit the pages directly! I am using the translation editor and this leads to the problem above.
You wroteLooks like the FR version has been set to use the default editor
but this is not the case. That’s why I replied: there is no way to choose “use ALB”. I am using the translation editor… ;)
It seems like deleting and restoring the page using the “edit page anyway without translation editor” trick the page structure gets rebuild and the layout is working fine afterwards. But again: this kills the permalink to this page and from then on the page_id query is used after this workaround.
Best regards

We are not really sure what it means but have you tried editing the permalinks manually. Switch to the other language, go to the Pages panel, edit the page, then look for the Permalinks tab. If you are using the classic editor, the permalink should be located below the page title.
Or post the login details in the private field so that we can check the page settings. Please make sure that the Appearance > Editor panel is accessible.
Best regards,
