Button row linking to custom trigger class element

I am trying to use this plugin https://www.bnecreative.com/products/panels/ and hide the panels using a button row element to activate different elements on a page. Following their instructions, it is a matter of placing the trigger class name into the link option for the element. http://docs.bnecreative.com/articles/plugins/bne-panels/ When I do that, it just reloads the page instead of pulling up the element. The only way I can seem to make it work is to have a text link instead of a button. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!
