A few days ago my Google Maps stopped working. I tried several times to get it to work, logging in to Google and fiddling with the API key and permissions. Nothing helped. I deleted the former key and generated a new one. I copied that API key into the Enfold theme options but it still isn’t working. There are no restrictions set on the key.
May 14, 2021 at 5:11 am #1300242Hey phausner,
It looks like you haven’t added billing details to the Google account which was used to create the API key. Please refer to this: https://console.cloud.google.com/project/_/billing/enable?pli=1
Best regards,
RikardMay 14, 2021 at 6:27 pm #1300410Well, I do have billing set up on the Google account. That’s how I was able to get the API key to work before. The billing info hasn’t changed. You can see in the private content area the proof that the billing is set up.
What seems to have changed is that Google wants me to upgrade and pay for their Cloud Platform, which I don’t want to use. That is the only thing that’s changed from a week ago when everything worked till now. I’m at a loss…I don’t know what to do.
I really appreciate your support. I love using Enfold because I know you guys always have my back. I don’t know what to do and I need the map to work because it’s a key feature of the site.
May 18, 2021 at 4:58 am #1300855Hi,
Thanks for the update, and sorry for the late reply. I tried logging into your Google account, but it won’t let me since I’m logging in from a different location than yours. We haven’t heard of any other users having this problem, so I’m not sure what to do about it unfortunately. Is there no way to opt out from the cloud platform which you are referring to?
Best regards,
RikardMay 19, 2021 at 10:01 pm #1301250Hi, Rikard. Today the API Key was accepted. I honestly don’t know what made the difference. You can see the accepted message in the private content area.
However, I’m still getting the error message “Oops! Something went wrong. This page didn’t load Google Maps correctly. See the JavaScript console for technical details.”
May 21, 2021 at 6:34 am #1301526Hi,
Thanks for the update. I created a test page, and it seems to be working as it should there, please see private. On which page are you seeing the map with problems?
Best regards,
RikardMay 21, 2021 at 5:17 pm #1301686Link with error in private content.
May 24, 2021 at 4:48 am #1301890Hi,
Thanks for that, I see the same problem on my end. I can’t see the actual content on the backend though, how are you adding the content which is below the search bar?
Best regards,
RikardMay 24, 2021 at 9:48 pm #1302094You can’t see the actual content below the search bar because the map doesn’t show. It either presents as a blank white area or it shows the error message I’ve pasted in previous replies. Here is another screen capture of the error message: https://www.screencast.com/t/uWoS2JgZ
Here is the screen capture of the Enfold theme options where the Google API key has finally been accepted: https://www.screencast.com/t/rRnIvmfw2
Here is the screen capture of the Mindful KC Zones page where the map should display: https://www.screencast.com/t/XckQp4as7Ey
We are using the Simple Business Directory on that page.
Thank you for your continued support with this.
May 26, 2021 at 6:28 am #1302356Hi,
Thanks for the update and clarification. So the shortcode in the last screenshot is generating the map? If so then we can’t really be responsible for problems generated by a third party plugin. Does that include its own Google API code? Please try to disable Google Maps in the theme options, to see if that makes any difference. If not, then please try reaching out to the plugin authors, to see if they can help you out.
Best regards,
RikardJune 28, 2021 at 10:06 pm #1307822This issue has been resolved. The plugin we were using for the Maps also needed the updated Google API key. Once I popped that in, everything worked. Thank you for your support.
