I updated to the latest theme, but when I looked at it, some copy came over, but none of the things I built into the site. Basically, the site was gone, and just the generic Enfold was there, even your logo! Thank God I had a backup from yesterday. What would cause this? Can I never update?

You could try to upload the new version to a separate folder via FTP: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/install-enfold-theme/#ftp-install. If it should fail in some way, then you can simply activate the old version.
I see that you are running the SG Optimiser on your site, it can create problems when file compression is active under Enfold->Performance. You could try turning that off, before you activate the new version of the theme.
If you need further help from us, then please include FTP login details in private as well, and verify that you have backups of the site.
