Hi, I’ve never had problems upgrading the theme before but something weird is happening now…

after uploading the new theme version it seems that all jQuery functions are disabled. To fix things I have to restore to a back-up of both the database and the theme folder. I’ve tried only restoring the database but that doesn’t fix things, I have to do both.

If I try just switching theme to a built-in wordpress theme and then switching back to the Enfold version before this update, I get the same problem but I’m then able to fix things by only restoring the database.

I’m at a loss with it so any advice would be appreciated. At the moment I have remained on the old version so that the site at least works.
If you need to see the problem I can upgrade this evening UK time so perhaps you can look at it overnight if it suits your time zone?

    Thank you,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Sorry for the problem. Please try installing this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/, then set the jQuery version to 1.12.4 to see if that helps. This is only a temporary solution, until the next version of the theme is available.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, then please deactivate file compression under Enfold->Performance, and your caching plugin might create problems when that is active.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried those suggestions but unfortunately it doesn’t fix my issue.

Perhaps I should wait for the next update and not move to the current release?

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Yes, I would suggest waiting for the next update.
However, if you’d like for us to check on the issue, you can setup a staging site for us, so we can investigate on the issue without risking your live site.
Here’s an easy tutorial you can follow: https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/

    Thanks for your reply.

I setup a staging site (which I should have done a long time ago!)
I upgraded as I normally would but didn’t have any problems at all on staging.
I tried deploying to Live but the same issue occurs.

Now I’m not sure what to do. There must be a difference with the staging and live environments but not sure what it could be. I tried cleaning all the caches I could find with the host and in WP but that doesn’t help. I’ve tried the jquery plugins you’ve mentioned but that doesn’t fix things.

If you have any suggestions on what to do next I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the update. I checked your site, but I’m not sure exactly what is not working. Could you give an example of something which is not working please? If you should keep on having problems, then please try disabling file compression under Enfold->Performance, as the SG Optimiser plugin can create problems when that is active.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rickard,

Your last suggestion did the trick. I disabled file compression in the Enfold settings and then upgraded. All worked well and then I re-enabled it and all is well!

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
