Hi there,
On my Enfold site I am trying to do some changes to a page that contains a lot of picture albums and text. Every time I’m working on it, the site freezes or gives me a database error when I try to save the page, sometimes it works but this is very annoying!
I’ve made a video about it, to explain whats wrong with my Enfold site:
Can you find a reason for this?

September 11, 2020 at 4:05 pm #1245170Hey vossenm,
Thanks for giving us admin access as well as the video to show the issue.
I created a separate page (private content) that is based on your homepage and added a gallery and some elements but it works on my end.
Try to right-click on any part of your backend then click Inspect and check the Console tab and see if there are any js errors that contribute to the issue.
I also noticed you are already using WordPress 5.5.1 but Enfold version is still 4.5.5, please update it to the latest version which is 4.7.6.3 which contains patches for WordPress 5.5.
In order to test these things out first without affecting your live site, I suggest creating a staging site first and test there first, here’s a simple tutorial: https://themeisle.com/blog/wordpress-staging-site/Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 16, 2020 at 12:35 pm #1246315Hi there,
Thanks!
Then why does my Enfold Update area indicate that this 4.5.5 is the latest version when I check for updates?
That is very confusing because I always keep up with the latest updates as far as I can see that in my WP backend of course…Regards,
Marcel

September 17, 2020 at 5:27 am #1246421Hi Marcel,
The reason why it’s not showing the latest version in Theme Updates because API is no longer used by Themeforest/Envato for Theme Updates.
You’ll need to put the Envato Private Token (you’ll see the field above API key)
Here’s how you can generate the token: https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/theme-registration/#how-to-generate-a-envato-personal-token
Make sure the following permissions are checked:

NikkoSeptember 17, 2020 at 11:22 am #1246486Hi there,
I followed that instruction and filled in the new API token in the area but it says:
And when I “check manually” for updates with the button below , it just goes back to the main WordPress screen?
Regards,
Marcel
September 17, 2020 at 11:50 am #1246490Hi Marcel,
The error says the purchases could not be accessed, username could not be accessed as well as the email.
I believe the permission you gave is not sufficient.- View and search Envato sites (checked by default)
- View your Envato account username
- View your email address
- View your account profile details
- Download your purchased items
- Verify purchases of your item
- List purchases you’ve made
Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 17, 2020 at 12:08 pm #1246500Hi there,
Yes it did have the right permission and even more , but I made a new one now (Enfold) with only those permissions you mentioned:
But I have to wait again until the server is answering again, trying to edit and save the page that I am working on just crashes the server, period, it’s unbelievable!
So I hope this update will fix that, the page is pretty long, with lots or pictures, could that be a problem?
It’s this page as you know:https://www.stichtingmediwiet.nl/info/lezingfanclubdag/
Could this be caused by the old version of Enfold or could it maybe be some setting on the server that has to be changed to handle larger pages?
(It says “error making database connection” now when I acces the site, and I have to wait for maybe 10 minutes until the server responds again…)

September 17, 2020 at 2:50 pm #1246546Hi Marcel,
Can you try this method of updating Enfold:
- Login to ThemeForest and download the Enfold theme.
- Right-click over the downloaded zip file and extract/unzip it.
- It should generate a new folder, open it and look for the enfold folder
- Right-click the enfold folder then zip it, here’s a tutorial on how to create a zip file in windows: https://www.howtogeek.com/668409/how-to-zip-and-unzip-files-on-windows-10/ (this should create enfold.zip)
- Log in to WordPress as and Admin.
- Install and activate this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/update-theme-and-plugins-from-zip-file/
- Go to Appearance > Themes.
- Click on the ADD NEW button.
- Click on the UPLOAD THEME button.
- Click BROWSE and choose enfold.zip file
- Click the INSTALL NOW button
Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 18, 2020 at 10:29 am #1246722Hi there,
I made a copy of the site and updated that manually like you said, the good news is that it worked, the bad news is that something is really wrong now, the video in private content shows it.
You can still access this copy with the credentials that work on the original site…

Marcel

September 18, 2020 at 12:49 pm #1246793Hi Marcel,
Thanks for giving us admin access as well as the video.
I have checked it and experienced the same slow response time.
I checked Media in the dashboard and it seems some images (most likely new ones) are empty, however, there’s nothing in the updating of theme that should remove any images as it’s only replacing the enfold folder.
I checked it further but experienced the database was down, maybe it was overloaded or needs some repair.
Here’s an article that may help: https://www.thoughtco.com/repairing-mysql-database-with-phpmyadmin-2693966

NikkoSeptember 18, 2020 at 5:38 pm #1246868Hi Nikko,
I noticed that the pictures that have disappeared in the Updraft restored backup are exactly the ones that were added during the time that I was having these database errors on the original site, I was adding them with trial and error all the time…
However on the original site they are still visible, is it possible that an exact copy has a different look when this page got corrupted at a certain point by a database connection error?
I could try to just remove all the empty albums and add them again on the restored site, or should I try to repair the database? Is that without risks?
Marcel
September 21, 2020 at 3:56 am #1247236Hi Marcel,
Each change do involve certain risks, that’s why we recommend to always have a backup, the database is no exception, you can follow this tutorial for backing up the database: https://support.managed.com/kb/a2034/how-to-backup-and-or-restore-your-mysql-database-using-phpmyadmin.aspx
However, I have never experienced any issues with database repair before but I could not say with complete certainty that this would not happen at all (just do everything with caution).
With your description that is also possible, but I think the best way for now is to remove the corrupted images and just re-add them if the database repair doesn’t help.Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 21, 2020 at 10:14 am #1247294Okay, I will try both on the copied site first then!
I noticed something very strange, the database of the Live site is 130Mb, but the database of the cloned site is 300Mb, do you have any idea how that is possible?
BTW: Isn’t the fact that the copied site doesn’t show the images proof that the original database is somehow corrupted in a way that cannot be copied in the Updraft Backup? In other words: can a corrupted database be copied 100% at all?

September 21, 2020 at 3:17 pm #1247382Hi vossenm,
What you said does make a lot of sense. If it’s already corrupted before the backup then most probably some parts are unreadable.
Also if the live site is only 130MB and the cloned site is 300MB then something is definitely wrong there though I really can’t explain why that should happen but maybe fix the database first in the live site then backup.Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 21, 2020 at 6:31 pm #1247433Hi,
I have managed to get the testsite fixed by drasticly changing the size of the database by deleting some worthless plugins that stored a lot of crap in the database, it was 300mB and now it’s only 15mB, and the site is a lot faster too.The only thing thats not working now is the Envato private token I generated at Envato yesterday, although it worked before when I tried yesterday, I had to re-install this site again from a backup, updated the Enfold theme manually again like you said, but today it doesn’t connect to Envato, can you see why? I also noticed that the Enfold theme is now called ‘Enfold’ , I had a Mediwiet child theme I made somewhere in the past, I don’t remember exactly what that was for but I think to keep certain changes that I made when updating the Enfold theme?
PS:
I’ve got a very important question that I’ve been wondering for a long time:Is it possible to copy a saved page template from one site to another Enfold site? In this case it would be the testsite running in a subfolder of the main site, so the main URL is a bit different. If the page contains albums with pictures and I copy the code of teh page and the pictures into the same uplaods folder, would that work?

September 23, 2020 at 7:18 am #1247775Hi Marcel,
I’m glad to hear that improvement :)
As for Enfold, it’s never changed its name as far as I know and as for that child theme you mentioned it does contain some CSS tweaks. As for your important question: Yes, that’s possible now. Go to Enfold > Import/Export > Export Layout Builder Templates.
And on the site that should import, go to Enfold > Import/Export > Import Layout Builder Templates File.
Everything is copied however you need to re-upload images if it includes some.Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 23, 2020 at 10:16 am #1247801Thanks for your great help so far!
– About the child theme, can I just activate it again after the manual update to the latest Enfold them? Will it just use the current Enfold theme with some extra CSS?
– Today I tried again to connect to Envato and now it works, is it a known problem perhaps that sometimes the Envato site doesn’t work correctly on their end? Because I really haven’t changed anything, but glad it’s working again now!– I’m looking for the place to change the text in the bottom left of teh frontpage that says “© 2016 Copyright – Mediwiet – Totaal aantal bezoekers: [wpstatistics stat=visitors time=total]” , I think it was somewhere in the Enfold Theme options but I can’t find it now?
Thanks again!

If you switch to your child theme and noticed there are some things that are different, please do the following:
– Go to Enfold Theme Options > Import/Export > Import Settings From Your Parent Theme and import– Today I tried again to connect to Envato and now it works, is it a known problem perhaps that sometimes the Envato site doesn’t work correctly on their end? Because I really haven’t changed anything, but glad it’s working again now!
– There are some people experiencing this issue, most likely it’s some connectivity or server issues.– I’m looking for the place to change the text in the bottom left of teh frontpage that says “© 2016 Copyright – Mediwiet – Totaal aantal bezoekers: [wpstatistics stat=visitors time=total]” , I think it was somewhere in the Enfold Theme options but I can’t find it now?
– You should be able to find it in Enfold > Footer > Copyright.Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 27, 2020 at 10:32 am #1248763Check!
Thanks very much!Everything seems to work now, except the ‘preview’ button, which is VERY important but hasn’t been working on this site for a long time, I showed you what I mean in the video in the private area, how do I fix that?
Regards,
Marcel
September 28, 2020 at 3:59 am #1248901Hi Marcel,
Thanks for giving us the video.
I tested it on my end as well on Homepage Test page and it worked fine.
I posted two screenshots in private content, one when I clicked the Preview button and the preview page.
Can you try to clear the browser cache? your browser maybe fetching older javascript files that causes the button not to work.
If your in chrome, try incognito mode to check.Best regards,
NikkoSeptember 29, 2020 at 11:37 am #1249328Oh yeah I see, the update fixed this too, I was still working on the original site because I have not copied it back, sorry for that!
