    Dear support team!

I am using Enfold for a client project which basically is a One-Pager but with additional pages for the portfolio, imprint and legal stuff. Therefore, I am using the Zen Logic plugin among others. Everything works fine so far, except the the anchors and active menu items on the landing page.

My main menu looks like this (translated from german for the sake of the forum):
Start – About Us – Portfolio – Services – Rent or buy – Contact

Now, the weird thing is, the first three of them work like a charm! No problem whatsoever, if I click the link in the menu the page scrolls to the correct section and the corresponding menu item is highlighted. However, as soon as it comes to Services and below, the scrolling still works but the active menu item is always off by one section!

Another fairly strange behavior I noticed is that when I open the landing page with one of the anchors in question directly – like https://URL/#anchor – it always scrolls down to about the middle of the section. Once I do a reload of the page, it stops correctly at the beginning. This clearly must be connected to the other issue, but for the love of mine I cannot figure out how to solve it!

I’ve read every thread in the forum about anchor issues and tried several of the suggested solutions, but to no avail. I deactivated all the plugins, deleted and recreated the sections and anchors in question, cloned them from the sections above, etc.pp. I even deleted all the custom CSS for testing purposes. Nothing worked, so I am really clueless and here to ask for help :)

    Thanks in advance,
    Kurt

    Hi Kurt,

I can’t see the behaviour you are describing on my end using Chrome, all the anchors are working fine on my end, and I don’t have to reload the page. How can we reproduce the problem that you are getting on your end?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    #1243923

    Hi Rikard,

This is strange, as I can reproduce the behavior on all of my clients, be it Windows or Mac, with all major browsers. I also use Chrome as a default and it shows immediately. My Client also tested and it showed on his Laptop and Tablet as well.

I can provide screenshots if that’s of any help or we could do a Jitsi Meet/Skype/Take-your-pick session if that’s an option for you.

    Best regards,
    Kurt

    Hi Kurt,

Can you please make a screencast of the issue?

You can upload screenshots to a service like Dropbox or http://imgur.com and give us the links here.

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    Hi Victoria,

I did a screencast but my mouse pointer is not visible, unfortunately. However, it should be obvious what the problem is – at least I hope :)
The link is in the private section.

    Hi Kurt,

Thank you for the video, what is the login link? The usual links are not working.

    Best regards,

    Hi Kurt,

Thank you. Can you deactivate the Zen menu logic plugin and test the menu extensively and see if the issue is still there or not?

    Best regards,
    Victoria

    #1245878

    Hi Victoria,

I already tried deactivating all plugins and removing all custom CSS – see my first post, to no avail.

Deactivating Zen Logic seems to work at first, but once you clean the browser cache and reload the site, the menu starts to act up again. I even deleted the plugin completely now, makes no difference as far as I can tell.

One additional thing I noticed: If you open the misbehaving anchors in new browser tabs and reload the corresponding tabs several times, the active menu item changes even more, up to two anchors “above”….?

Any help would be much appreciated :(

It’s been two weeks now since the last reaction from the support team… :(

    Hi,
Sorry for the very late reply, and thanks for the login, in my tests after the “portfolio” the anchors seem to be off about 30px, so it seems like a calculation.
I copied your page to my localhost and tested v4.7.6.4-beta-1 which seems to work correctly. Please try testing this version which is linked in the Private Content area.
The easiest way to do this is to rename your current theme folder to “enfold-old” via ftp then upload the new “enfold” folder and check that your site is working correctly.
Should for some reason you wish to roll-back to the old version, it’s easy to do, simply rename the new “enfold” folder to “enfold-new” via ftp and then rename “enfold-old” to “enfold” then refresh your page.
Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors.
I also noticed that there is a copy of “avia.js” in your child theme, please remove this, for now, to ensure there won’t be any conflicts.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for getting back to me, your analysis and the link to the beta. The “avia.js” was kind of a leftover from earlier tries to fix the issue with solutions from the forums and has been removed.

I did as you suggested and installed the beta on my server. The anchors seem to scroll correctly when using the navigation in the menu. There are, however, still several issues:

    1. After the portfolio section, the active menu item still does not correspond with the section -> Section: Services, Active: Portfolio, etc.

    2. If you go to main menu and open every link in another new tab, you’ll see that each and every one has scrolled down to the correct section AND highlighted the correct menu item… ???

    3. If you try scrolling in these tabs, you’ll also notice that both the scrolling and highlighting now seems to work all of a sudden… ???

    4. And last, if you try and do a reload of these tabs, preferably more than once, you’ll see that both the scrolling and the active menu items start to completely go crazy… ???

Try doing the steps above in an incognito window in order to really be able to reproduce the strange behavior. I found that when I do it in a regular window it tends to behave differently after the first or second try for whatever reason. It also does not follow any discernible pattern :-(

    Best regards,
    Kurt

    Hi Mike,

It seems I found the culprit! I rebuilt the site from the ground on a fresh installation:

New database, new wordpress installation, exported theme settings from current site and imported into the new site, including styles.css and everything. And to my utter surprise, the site worked flawlessly!

So I started to insert all the content and kept testing after each and every step – no problem whatsoever – UNTIL I inserted the portfolio grid on the first page! All of a sudden, the anchors and active menu items started to go weird again. As soon as I delete the portfolio grid, everything is fine…

Problem is, I need the portfolio grid to showcase the customer’s products and link to the respective portfolio items :-(

    EDIT – MORE INFO:

I analysed a bit further and tried changing various options of the portfolio grid. There’s one way the anchors still work correctly:

That is if you enable the link option to display an Ajax Preview/Gallery. As soon as you click on one image and the ajax gallery is displayed, the anchors are working again. And they keep working even if you close the ajax preview – until you reload the page…

    Hi,
While reporting this I found that If the portfolio grid is replaced with another element, such as the masonry element, or if the 3/5 column that the portfolio grid is inside of is changed to full width, or if the column is removed the menu highlighting works correctly. So it seems to be related to the element nested inside of the column, anyways I will report back after the dev team checks.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi,

I realized that, too, and replaced the portfolio grid with a masonry element for the time being so I can finally bring the whole site online for my customer. However, I would prefer being able to use the portfolio grid, as the masonry really is just a workaround in this particular case.

    Thanks in advance,
    Kurt

    Hi,
I understand and didn’t mean it as a workaround, I was pointing out what I had found, anyways I will report back after the dev team checks.

    Best regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

No pun intended, no offense taken. I just wanted to let you know that I found a workaround for the time being so my client can finally go online.
Looking forward to hearing from the dev team!

    Best regards,
    Kurt
