    Hi,

I’ve been thinking about using Enfold for a couple of projects – I’ve been very impressed by the demos, which look like excellent starting points to experience how Enfold works, from admin to finished page.

I have also been speaking to a local web firm, mainly with a view to getting support for maintaining WordPress, plugins and theme updates, i.e. keeping the engine in tune!

The local web firm made some interesting comment…

[quote]A bespoke site will be built from scratch using our own core code as a base for the design. The site will be extremely light weight, and completely flexible in terms of the layout. Premium themes tend to be rather restricted in their structure.
A bespoke site is also far quicker, as we only add the plugins that are required for that project. The Enfold theme will be packed full of plugins and features that aren’t needed, which will slow the site down and potentially open up your site to security issues.
We use the Visual Composer site builder for all our WordPress projects, which would allow you to make custom layouts within the site in a similar way to the Enfold site builder.[unquote]

What would be your reaction or response to this? I can’t tell if Enfold will be “packed full of plugins and features that aren’t needed”…. Is Enfold a resource-heavy theme?

The local web firm is talking about “using our own core code as a base for the design. The site will be extremely light weight..” But they are using WordPress, I guess they must be using a theme, and they are using Visual Composer. Is that any lighter and more flexible than Enfold?

    Your assessment would be welcome.

    Many thanks,

    Hey Dowlass,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I’m not sure I agree with what they are saying, and Enfold is not “packed with plugins which are not needed”. Having said that, a premium theme is of course “heavier” than a standard WordPress theme. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to load slower. If you have a good hosting plan and optimised content then Enfold should load as quickly as any other theme.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Thanks Rikard, What you say makes sense to me.

I will question the local web developer a little further. I think he probably doesn’t know Enfold intimately. For myself, I can’t see much difference between Enfold on the one hand, and his idea of a ‘code base + theme + page builder’ on the other – I’d have thought their ‘weight’ would be rather similar!

One further question: I see several sliders are included in the theme, Easy Slider and Layer Slider. Do these slider work fully in the cost of the theme? Or do ‘upgrades’ or licenses have to be purchased to release their full potential?

    thanks and regards

    Hi Dowlass,

Thanks for the update. There are actually more sliders than the two you mentioned, and they are all included in the theme, and free to use in which ever way you want. There are no hidden costs or yearly licenses. Once you own a license of the theme then it’s yours for life.
One thing to note though is that the LayerSlider is bundled with the theme, so it’s not the standalone plugin version. But it will produce the same results as the regular plugin would do.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard,

    Many thanks for response.

When you say LayerSlider is the ‘bundled’ version not the standalone plugin, you mean it’s a slightly trimmed-down version of the ‘full’ LayerSlider? That’s maybe fine, as long as capability isn’t too constrained.

Languages will be a requirement for me, too. I’ve tested Translatepress and Polylang and run into issues with both. WPML looks good but there’s no free version so can’t be tested. Do you know of any Enfold-friendly language plugins? (I don’t mind making a small outlay, just wondering what works best with Enfold and the Avia builder. P.S. I’m not looking for auto-translation, all my translation will be done manually by native speakers – so I don’t need a google translate function!)

    thanks and regards

    Hi,

    Thanks for contacting us!

1- Yes, in bundled version premium features are missing – https://layerslider.kreaturamedia.com/premium/

2- Enfold is officially compatible with WPML and we would recommend it. There are many users using Polylang as well so if you do not mind sharing the issues you had with it, we might be able to help you solve them :)

Hi, just a thought before I take the plunge!….

Are there many updates in terms of functionality or capability of Enfold latest version (is it 4.7..?) over older version 4.5.7? I went to a WP club meeting a while ago and a guy there was using it and it was version 4.5 or something – just wondered if there was much new in way of features of Avia widgets other than you tweaking security and behind the scenes stuff.

    Thanks

    Thanks, Yigit.

Most of these chagelog stuff is over my head, I’m afraid – I was just looking for (in layman’s language!) any novel features that have been added.

    cheers

    Hi,

Thanks for the update and sorry for the late reply. We fix problems and introduce the functionality to the them on a regular basis, but we don’t really have a list of new features between the current one and the one you referred to unfortunately. We do recommend always running the latest version of the theme though.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
