Hallo there,
I do not understand the two options 404 and Maintenance Mode.1) I have first tried to redirect the old url-strings to the new, but always the 404 page is showing up. I deleted now the written code in the htaccess, and I think all the old page rankings are lost now. What do you think. We have launched 1 week ago?
2) When activating the 404 nothing worked when launching the website. So I deactivated it, but I wanted first that all pages which have not the right Urls go to the homepage. How can I handle it? There ist still a note that the homepage is the inactive 404-page
3) Also when deactivating the maintenance mode, nothing worked fine. How do I use this?
Thanks!

I’m sorry for the late reply. If you want to redirect your 404 pages to the home page then please select the “Redirect to select page” option, then select the home page as the page which it should redirect to.
I’m not sure I understand what you mean by Also when deactivating the maintenance mode, nothing worked fine. How do I use this?. Could you try to explain that a bit further please?
Best regards,
RikardApril 14, 2020 at 9:44 am #1203494Hallo Rikard.
1) At least I wanted to redirect the old URLs to the new ones with the htaccess. But nothing worked and it causes errors (I uses the code like always…). Now I think we have lost all the page rankings because we have launched over one week ago. What do you think?
2) That is why I have tried it with redirecting 404-pages to the home page. But we had a lot of problems, because ALL pages have been redirect to the home page also the ‘good’ ones!
3) Also the deactivated maintenance page caused problems when testing with the https://www.webpagetest.org/. Always the maintenance mode had been tested even when deactivated?!So, this is why I am asking for the correct use of the maintenance and 404 options.
So I am a bit confused.
ThanksApril 16, 2020 at 5:58 am #1204251Hi,
Thanks for the update.
1. I would recommend that you use a 301 redirect plugin if you are redirecting specific URLs: https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
2. So you are saying that whatever page you navigate to is redirecting to the home page? Maybe that is caused by the code you added to the htaccess file?
3. I don’t understand this point, could you try to explain a bit further please?
Best regards,
RikardApril 24, 2020 at 12:39 pm #12067971. Ok, I try this
2. I do not have any redirects in the htaccess so far. I tried my normal code, but it did not work, so I deleted it again.
3. This is really hard to explain. But at least it is strange that when I do not activate the 404 page I still get a red notice at the top of the backend for the Homepage:
Diese Seite ist als deine 404-Seite ausgewählt, aber ist gerade nicht aktiv. (In Enfold » Theme-Einstellungen gesetzt). (Ändern)
How can I delete this?April 28, 2020 at 3:59 am #1207691Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. The 404 redirect will remain if a page has been selected, so you would have to activate the function again, and then select the top most option which is not a page. I have done that for you, and the page is not listed as your custom 404 page any longer in the pages list. Could you have a look at your site now to see if everything works as it should please?
