From a check we noticed an unusual activity relative to our site; to be precise, we understand that files with the extension ‘.js’ and ‘.css’ are generated within the ‘Dynamic_Avia’ folder in the ‘Uploads’ directory on a daily basis.

These files (whose origin and purpose are unknown to us) currently occupy almost 5 GB of disk space.

It would be advisable to free these resources, at least by checking the reason for the presence of so many files. Depends on what. this problem? Thank you.

ps: below you will find the site to which we refer.

This is a screenshot of the folder

    Hi Grazman2020,

Can you give us temporary admin access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look?

    Best regards,
    Victoria

Sure: check the private area ;-)

    Hi,

Thanks for that. What happens if you activate the Delete old CSS and JS files? option under Enfold->Performance?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hi Rikard,
I need to try? You can also try, if needed: you have the admin access: is right? Is better to make some test.
    Thanks

    Hi,

Yes we can do what I wrote above, but we can’t check the folder via FTP, since you didn’t include FTP details. Is the folder still the same size after activating the option I referred to?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hi Rikard, we have checked on the FTP: no changes after we have changed the option in Enfold->Performance….
Can you suggest us a solution? I attach another screenshot.
    Thanks

ps: can I delete all this files and check if the system recreates them? I need to preserve them?

    Hi,

Is the site hosted on WP Engine?

Yes, you have to delete the files because they are no longer valid. This seems to be an issue with database caching and the theme’s compression timestamp as explained in this thread.

    // https://kriesi.at/support/topic/dynamic_avia-making-way-too-many-calls/#post-1182734

You can use the filter, which is available in the thread above, to prevent the theme from generating merged files with timestamps.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael
thanks for your support, but I need some more help.
In some parts of the thread it says to disable an Enfold function. In another part it says to replace some parts of code in a file that I have not well identified. Finally it says to use a plugin.
Can I ask you for a simplified procedure (maybe in clear steps), explicitly saying if I have to do these procedures on the site (via FTP or similar) or do I have to indicate them to the server manager where the site is located?
    Thanks, all the best.

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay. The easiest route is to disable the theme’s Performance > File Compression settings because it’s the option that generates the merged files. You can instead use a third party plugin like Autoptimize or BWP Minify to compress the scripts and stylesheets.

    // https://wordpress.org/plugins/autoptimize/

Now, if you prefer to use the theme’s file compression settings, then you have to add the following filter in the functions.php file to remove the timestamps in the file name of the merged files because your server caches the database including entries related to the compressed files.

    // https://kriesi.at/support/topic/dynamic_avia-making-way-too-many-calls/#post-1182734

That should prevent the theme from generating multiple copies of the compressed files.

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Hi Ismael,
thanks for your indication. We test the procedure immediately,
I’ll update you if there are problems.
    See you soon

    Hi,

    FYI:

In the next update 4.7.3.1 there will be a theme option to prevent generating the timestamps.

    Best regards,
    Günter

FYI my host has just reported this week that similar issues persist with this cache folder, and I am running Enfold 4.7.4. I am reading this and similar recent messages for solutions.

    Hi sifupeter,

Sorry for the problem. Did you select to activate the option to delete the old CSS and JS files under Enfold->Performance? If not then please try doing so.

If that doesn’t change anything then please open a new thread and include WordPress admin login details in private so that we can have a closer look at your site.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Thank you Rikard, I will share this advice with my host developer and get back to you.

    #1215373

    Hi sifupeter,

Thanks for the update. Please let us know how you get on with it.

    Best regards,
    Rikard
