    The social icons appear in the header, but the text is not shown (just the background when hovering).
    Maybe this has to do with the network installation?

    This issue happened after updating to WordPress 5.3.1.
    You can apply the temporary fix mentioned in this reply.

    Did you clear your cache including a hard refresh in your browser?

    yes. And actually it worked all fine at the beginning of the website project and I think I had installed 5.3. from the beginning. Just I changed to a network installation and that might have had an impact. Don’t know.
