Hello! On a company website built with Enfold the homepage features a self-hosted video, which is the first content item.
When google searching the company’s, the meta description is not displayed, instead the error

Media error: Format(s) not supported or source(s) not found.

is shown. which is very annoying (and the video works fine on all devices).
As also described in other threads, custom fields were used as well as a manual excerpt – see screenshots linked to in the private content section.
What can be done to fix this?

    Thank you!

    Hey Maike,

When did you change the text in your SEO plugin? Please note that SERPS can take a very long time to update.

    Best regards,

    Hi Rikkard,
I wanted to avoid another plugin and tried to add the meta description via custom fields, as suggested in other threads.
This was done two months ago, so time should not be the issue.
Reluctantly, I will give yoast a try – or is there another good way to do this?

    Hi,

I personally use Yoast on all sites that I create, it’s almost like its WordPress standard to use it. I would recommend that you install Yoast or another similar SEO plugins to see what happens after that.

    Best regards,

    Hi
I’m having this problem too and I use Yoast. If you insert a selfhosted video as first element or as background in your first Color Section, instead of reading the meta description in meta name=”description” content=” yoast snippet description” Google posts the following meta description in the snippet: Media error: Format(s) not supported or source(s) not found.

Is there something I can do to prevent this inconvenience?

For now I solved it by disallowing the videos in robots.txt
    Disallow: /video-folder/name of the video.mp4

    Thank you, Best Reagards

    Hi Manu,

I’m very sorry for the late reply. Do you have a test page where we can see this problem happening on?

    Best regards,

    Hi Manu,

Thanks for that, I see the same thing on my end. Did you change this recently? If so then please don’t expect that search engines like Google will reflect your changes instantly, it can take up to several weeks for them to update their indexes.

If you need further help then please post admin login details in private so that we can have a closer look.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Thank you Rikard
Do you have any idea why this is happening? I would like to have the videos to be indexed and by disallowing them they will not appear in search results. Is there a way to force the <meta name=”description” content=”my content”> to be read by Google first instead of the video?
    Best Regards
    Manu
