For about a year or so, I had a ‘minor’ spam problem: about 4-5 spam mails per day. Didn’t really care too much. But since about a week, I’m getting HUNDREDS of spam mails a day now. All of them must have been sent through my contact form (I can tell by the Subject line).
The really strange thing is:
NONE of the spam mails agree to my GDPR privacy policy: they all say “I agree to the terms and conditions laid out in the Privacy Policy: false” at the bottom. So I did a test myself: I can’t post through my contact form without agreeing to the GDPR privacy policy. Why is that happening? Shouldn’t it be impossible to send these spam mails unless the spam bots agree to the terms & conditions?
Wordpress and the theme are up to date, latest versions.I know there’s other contact form options out there – but I really like the theme’s built-in “transparency look” for the contact form, and it’d be great if there was a solution to stop this spam nonsense.
I’d be very interested in particular to hear from the developers why spam can bes ent if the GDPR policy hasn’t been agreed with. Many thanks!

Can you try to use google reCaptcha on our contact form?
Go to Enfold > Google Services > Google reCaptcha.
Select Google reCAPTCHA Version, I would suggest using version 3
Then fill in Site Key and Secret Key and that should be it.
Maybe you can observe for several days if the spam problem will be fixed or atleast lessen.Best regards,

thanks very much for your response. I’ve been using Enfold for several years now, but never noticed that the Google reCaptcha is built in. Is this new? Since this is a Google Service, this will need to be mentioned in the GDPR terms – correct?
I’ve activated this today, and indeed the spam has gone down a lot within ist a few hours. Only very few spam messages coming through now. Thanks very much for that!!June 7, 2019 at 9:32 am #1108187Hi BelIblis,
We’re glad to hear that :) and you’re welcome, it’s a bit new feature in Enfold which was integrated just a few versions before.
And Yes, this needs to be mentioned in GDPR terms since this invisible reCaptcha (v3) collects personal data.Best regards,
