I am working on making updates to a site that was very outdated. I have manually copied the files and database to a dev subdomain, updated WordPress, and the theme files. Initially, I had only updated WordPress and that resulted in being unable to load the edit page screen. The client was unable to supply credentials to update the theme, so I had to repurchase it to update.
After updating theme files I can load the edit page screen and see the layout builder for the pages, but when I click to edit an element, the contents are not visible until I drag to select the text, as it appears to be white code in the box. BUT it looks like the code for the whole page, and not the element I’m trying to edit.
How to fix this? Please let me know if you need more info to diagnose.
May 6, 2019 at 7:56 pm #1097802Also, note, I’ve never used this theme/layout builder before, but it looks like the text editor bar is broken in my browser.
I did look at it on a different computer, and tried editing the code and it seems to have somehow fixed the layout, but duplicated the content. I’m guessing at this point it’s an issue with the copied database info? I’d like to avoid going through this again when I push from the dev back to live, so if you can help me to pinpoint the issue, I’d appreciate it.
May 6, 2019 at 8:04 pm #1097806OK. I think I figured it out – there’s an autosave for the post that appears to have some code added to it. If I restore that autosave, then the layout builder works. Super weird.
