current_page_item/current-menu-item classes missing from single post menus

I have a couple of custom post types on my site – on the landing page there are bars underlining the current page on the menu and submenu, but those go away when you navigate to a single post. I noticed the menus do not have the current_page_item or current-menu-item on the active link. How can I add those?
