We are in the process of trying to make all the needed updates to our site (plugins, WP version, theme etc.) and had to have our hosting provider update the server to the latest version of PHP and MySql server.
Everything went well with the server update but now the home page won’t display properly. The conflict appears to reside with the Layer Slider and the theme not playing nice with this latest version. See error log provided from hosting provider:
It appears that there is an issue with the ‘enfold’ theme. Here is what I found in the error logs:
[15-Jan-2019 16:14:04 UTC] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: [] operator not supported for strings in /home/triovisi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/includes/slider_markup_init.php:83

#5 /home/triovisi/public_html/wp-include in /home/triovisi/public_html/wp-content/themes/enfold/config-layerslider/LayerSlider/includes/slider_markup_init.php on line 83I am not a coder or techy person so I have absolutely not a clue what this means. They are instructing me to take up the issue with the theme developer to fix or or use another theme (not an option).
Can anyone help me resolve this? For moderators, I’ve included the login credentials here. Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

January 15, 2019 at 7:24 pm #1054292FYI – I went ahead and removed the Advanced Layer Slider element from the home page and the improper display and scrolling issue for the entire page resolved and went away. This isn’t the fix so it does appear that the issue resides with a conflict with the theme and that element.
I need to have my client’s site online so this is why I did this. If you do place the element back in there, you’ll see the issue it creates. I’d like very much to get their slideshow back up and running without issue instead of the static image that is just a fix for now.
Thanks.

Which version of php are you running?
Best regards,

January 16, 2019 at 2:16 am #1054463I just had an issue with Layer Slider when updating to latest version of WordPress and Enfold Theme just now.
The slider ceased to render its contents on the home page but the element space was there. I went through various options of clearing cache, changing caching plugins, removing adding element etc.. to no avail.
I then installed the plugin ‘Advanced Database Cleaner’ and went through General Cleanup and the Optimize sections.
Once completed, my slider came back :).
If you do use this suggestion, please make a backup before commencing as it has the potential to harm.
Good luck
JohnJanuary 16, 2019 at 10:23 pm #1054775Thanks John,
Because of the potential harm with this plugin, I may pass on trying it. The site has lots of functions involved like WooCommerce, an interactive mapping component etc. so we could try fixing one issue and then wind up creating worse ones.
I’ll ask my senior tech what he thinks so I do appreciate the feedback and recommendation – he may feel comfortable and be familiar with it.
Again, thanks for the feedback here. The search continues…
January 17, 2019 at 6:01 am #1054871I still have no solution to this. My hosting provider has told me that I must rely on the theme developer to help me resolve this issue. I just paid for extended support but I haven’t had any from someone in the organization. Can someone please help with this. My site has not worked correctly for many days now.
January 17, 2019 at 9:37 pm #1055167Hi creativeraven,
You are running a very old version of the theme. Layer Slider has new versions too, they come with the Enfold update. You might want to update the theme. The last few updates might require more attention and it would be great if you had a copy of the website as a test server and attempt the update there first.
If you need further assistance please let us know.
Best regards,
Victoria -
