animated numbers fire time on mobile – change via functions?

Hi,

I’ve read the following thread which suggested a way to disable animated numbers animation to load on page load – but when the text is seen on screen.

Is it possible to make that change via the functions file on child theme, so it won’t be overwritten every time I update the theme?
