Hey there!
when I try to update my theme at http://www.opmedgrontsagerne.dk i get the error :“An error occurred while updating Enfold: Download failed. A valid URL was not provided.”
…I have bought a new theme and generated a new api key today. the theme I uploaded yesterday was from 2017, but I have never seen this problem in my other sites…
Can you help?
October 13, 2018 at 6:13 am #1020947Hey idaandersenlang,
This is because Theme Forest has changed their API key and we are integrating a new solution, we recommend manually updating for right now. The easiest way is to try using the Update Theme and Plugins from Zip File plugin. It will allow you to upload the enfold.zip file from your Theme Forest account to update. Please be sure to download the “Installable WordPress file only”.
Please use your webhost full backup tool first, as good practice.
Another method is to update via FTP, but you will need to remove the old theme folder “enfold” first then upload the new “enfold” folder at /wp-content/themes/enfold/
Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors. The plugin above handles this correctly. If this doesn’t help we will be happy to assist with a manual update, if you include a admin login & ftp access, & a link to your updated theme files in the Private Content area.
Best regards,

As for now, it would be really nice if you can run an update for me, since I really not am very tech savvy…I will return to you with my ftp login etc on tueday :o)
Thank you very much!
IdaPS: what do you mean by link to updated theme files? I guess you can see the theme folder when you login to ftp?
October 14, 2018 at 11:34 pm #1021316Hi,
I will be happy to update for you, I have assign this thread to myself so I will see it easier when you post your ftp access login.
Yes I will see your theme folder via ftp, but I will need your new Enfold theme to update with, I only have a non-retail version, and you will want the retail version installed. You can download it from Theme Forest and upload it to your site somewhere or add it to your DropBox and include a link to it here.Best regards,
MikeOctober 15, 2018 at 11:26 am #1021503What is going on with this theme lately people?
Download failed. A valid URL was not provided everytime I try to run a standard update for the latest theme?
I tried all the stuff you mentioned please help?
October 15, 2018 at 11:55 am #1021519Mike, the Themeforest site specifically says the old API keys were NOT turned off and should be working.
Additionally, are you saying each and every purchaser would need to revoke and re-generate a new API key with their new setup? Details are important.October 15, 2018 at 12:01 pm #1021524I have already deleted and recreated a new API key and applied this to my website and it made no difference what-so-ever…
October 15, 2018 at 1:01 pm #1021551Hi,
@geekeey & @crtdude Theme Forest has changed their API, until our new update comes out it is recommend to update manually.
There is a temp fix here but Theme Forest is also Rate Limiting so some users my still have issues. In such a case there is a free plugin that will allow you to manually update via the WordPress Theme panel by uploading the enfold.zip file, otherwise you can update via FTP, please remember to delete the current enfold folder and then upload the new one. Please don’t try to overwrite the theme folder, as this will leave old files behind and cause errors.
My recommendation is to go to your Theme Forest account and download the updated Enfold v4.5 and manually update it, then going forward it will use the new API. All users will need to generate a new token for updates. If you don’t see the new Enfold v4.5 try again later, it has been pushed with the official release tomorrow or wednesday.Best regards,
MikeOctober 15, 2018 at 1:06 pm #1021555OMG really – if I provide FTP details can you guys do this for me please I am little out of my depth?
October 15, 2018 at 1:13 pm #1021559HI Enfold People,
I updated my own site to version 4.5 and did the “Personal Token” thing.
How does this work for us – We build sites for clients. We purchase a Enfold license for each client on my own Envato account and transfer the license to the client and create an API.
How do we use the new token thing in this manor?October 15, 2018 at 1:39 pm #1021571Hi,
@geekeey I will be happy to assist with the update, Please open a new thread so we can assist, and include your admin login & ftp access in the Private Content area, but as this is not your thread your login info will not be private here.
@Netzie I believe each token is unique to each product and is not stored by Envato, you can give your token to your client and it will allow them to update, if they ever lose it you will need to create a new one for them. With the tokens they will not have access to your account, only the one product. This is how I understand it, but please check with Envato.Best regards,
MikeOctober 15, 2018 at 1:43 pm #1021572Cheers Mike how do I open a new thread please?
October 15, 2018 at 1:44 pm #1021573Can I not paste the details in the Private section where it says Private Content ?
October 15, 2018 at 2:02 pm #1021581Hi,
You can start new threads under Enfold sub forum – https://kriesi.at/support/forum/enfold/#new-post :)

YigitOctober 15, 2018 at 2:11 pm #1021587I have now posted a new thread… thank you
October 15, 2018 at 2:18 pm #1021591@Mike
But I don’t want the clients to be able to update via my personal token – I want to control this via the APIOctober 15, 2018 at 3:03 pm #1021606Hi,
@Netzie i believe you can create a separate token and insert it in your clients installation. Personal tokens can be edited and permissions can be changed in https://build.envato.com/my-apps/Best regards,
