Hey guys,
what I originally thought was related to my caching plugin seems to be connected to something else. When I browse my site, each time I click a tab I get a flicker of some sort: https://prnt.sc/kvx170We disabled every option in the FILE OPTIMIZATION tab of WP-Rocklet (our caching tool) and the issue was there.
We added the ?nocache query in the URL to access the non-cached version of your site and it still happens….The resizing of the background image is happening after the image has been downloaded. Ideally, it should be completed before the image itself is displayed. This is the case, most of the times, in the uncached, slower version of the homepage.
The issue is more apparent when caching is on because the content loads faster and the image is downloaded and displayed earlier before the script manages to resize it.
Not sure if it’s related to this? https://js-interactive.com/wp-content/themes/enfold/js/avia-compat.js?ver=4.4.1
Any ideas?
Thanks!September 19, 2018 at 10:11 am #1011710Hey Justin,
Thank you for using Enfold.
Did you enable the theme’s Performance > File Compression settings? The site loads the minified version of the stylesheets and scripts generated by the cache plugin instead of those that are merged by the theme. The stylesheets loads roughly a third of second while the script loads completely after 500ms, which is why you see the site “flicker” on every page load. Please disable the plugin’s minify options and then enable the theme’s file compression. If it doesn’t work, you may need to enable the plugin’s minify option back and then exclude some of the stylesheets like “avia-base” and “avia-layout”.

IsmaelSeptember 19, 2018 at 10:19 pm #1012041Thanks Ismail.
mind being more specific on where the CSS files above can be found? Are you referring to:/wp-content/themes/enfold/css/base.css
/wp-content/themes/enfold/css/layout.cssThanks!
September 20, 2018 at 8:39 am #1012166Hi,
Yes, those are the css files. Those stylesheets contain the theme’s basic structure.

Text became super small in some areasSeptember 20, 2018 at 12:30 pm #1012251Hi,
Did you exclude them from minification? Please provide the login details in the private field so that we can check the settings.

IsmaelSeptember 20, 2018 at 2:21 pm #1012321I did yes. You will see the body copy on the page shrinks. It creates some odd alterations.
September 20, 2018 at 2:49 pm #1012338Ismael. I had to disable some Firewall settings and a couple other things to grant access. With that being said. I would rather not have it this way for days… Thanks
September 20, 2018 at 4:25 pm #1012380Hi,
Thanks for the update. I can’t reproduce the issue any more. I’m not sure what changed but I don’t see the site flicker with the dark background and blue or unstyled menu items like it used to. I also enabled the theme’s file compression, leaving WP Rocket’s settings intact and it’s still the same. Can you still reproduce the issue?
Best regards,
IsmaelSeptember 20, 2018 at 6:04 pm #1012409Hey Ismael, I tried browsing via Chrome and FireFox.
Both produce the same issue. Every time I click a menu item, I see this: https://prnt.sc/kwpquqSeptember 21, 2018 at 3:22 am #1012584Hi,
Odd. I can reproduce the issue on Opera/Chrome Windows 7, but I don’t see it on Chrome Windows 8. I would like to check this again but my IP is currently blocked.
The main js file is being stalled/delayed for more than a second and a half before it gets downloaded. (see private field)
Have you tried to disable WP Rocket’s file minification option? This might help: https://docs.wp-rocket.me/article/19-resolving-issues-with-file-optimization
Best regards,
IsmaelSeptember 21, 2018 at 4:21 am #1012601Ismael, you can login now.I actually disabled WP rocket entirely and I still get the flickering menu :/
September 21, 2018 at 2:48 pm #1012791Hi,
Are you purging the cache before checking the page? This is what I see on Chrome Windows 8. (see private field)
Best regards,
IsmaelSeptember 21, 2018 at 4:25 pm #1012825The flickering that takes place…happens when you click a menu item. It’s only for a split second.
With the caching plugin completely OFF, it still happens.September 24, 2018 at 3:10 am #1013443Hi,
I’m not really sure why it does that but it seems intermittent or it doesn’t happen on every browsers as you can see on the screencast. Please try to enable the page preloader in the theme options. Have you test your CDN settings?
Best regards,
IsmaelSeptember 24, 2018 at 8:10 pm #1013808I have checked the CDN settings. :/
Purged cache, etc. 100 times over LOL.
I haven’t checked in with Sucuri. Not sure if they have anything to do with it though?!
https://prnt.sc/ky76xoLooking at how I’ve configured other websites using the same setup & configuration. They are mirroring each other, yet not producing this glitch.
