Hi Enfold team,
I’ve read that WPML is a great and easy plugin for a multilingual (Enfold) website.
I’m doubting if I need the ‘multilingual blog’ or ‘multilingual cms’ version for my website.
What do you think? Thanks in advance for your advice!
EefkeSeptember 7, 2018 at 5:46 pm #1007225Hey Eefke,
Depends on what features you need and if your website is just a blog or much more than that.

VictoriaSeptember 9, 2018 at 8:32 pm #1007691Hi Victoria,
Thanks for your quick reply!
Yes, I saw that webpage, but unfortunately I still not really understand which one I need.
I have a very basic website (a few pages and a blog). I translate all the pages myself.
Do I really need the multilingual CMS? What does WPML for example mean with ‘CMS Navigation’ or ‘Translate texts in theme and plugins admin’?What would you advice?
EefkeSeptember 10, 2018 at 6:59 am #1007773Hi Eefke,
My personal advice would be to not use a multilingual plugin, you could simply create a new installation at a sub folder or similar for your second language and treat it as a separate site.

BasilisSeptember 13, 2018 at 1:39 pm #1009388Hi team Enfold,
Is that easier than using for example the WPML plugin?
And if it is, how can I create a new installation?
Thanks in advance!
EefkeSeptember 14, 2018 at 4:53 am #1009782Hi,
It’s not easier but it won’t present complexities in the future because the content of each languages are located on separate installations or databases unlike using a multilingual plugin such as W P M L, which duplicates the posts or entries on the same database. This is prone to errors and we have encountered a lot of issues because of it, which are quite difficult to debug. Maybe this is why @rikard suggested creating a new installation instead of using the plugin.
You can create a new installation the same way that you’ve installed the first one, but only this time it’s on a sub domain.

IsmaelSeptember 17, 2018 at 6:22 pm #1010891Hi Ismael,
Thank you for the clarification. So I think it’s better to create a new installation.
Just to be sure ;), my domain name stays the same and when people visit my website in the UK they’ll get the English version of my website and when someone in The Netherlands visit my website they’ll get the Dutch version?
Is there someone from Enfold who could help me with this, because I unfortunately don’t have an idea how I can do it myself.
Kind Regards,
EefkeSeptember 18, 2018 at 6:17 am #1011090Hi,
Clone the current site to a sub domain. You can use plugins like WP Migrate or All-in-One WP Migration to transfer the site. After cloning, translate the pages manually and then a create a custom link that goes from the sub domain to the parent domain and vice versa. This custom link will act as your language switcher. There’s a way to redirect a site based on the user’s location, but you can just serve the English version initially and then let the users switch language manually.

IsmaelSeptember 18, 2018 at 11:34 am #1011214Hi,
Thanks for the information.
So if I understand it right, my English website could be the default one and Dutch people can switch language manually.
How do the people on my website see that there is a language switcher on my website when I’ve used for example All-in-One WP Migration?Eefke
September 19, 2018 at 3:00 am #1011587Hi,
Yes, that could be the setup. You should include the custom link or language switcher in your main menu or put it on the area of the site where it’ll be noticeable. You can include a country flag beside the menu name or label.
