I would like to add a forum to my Avisio WordPress site. My server has a version of mysq below that required by SimplePress so had to rule that out. Mingle looked good but a few bugs put me off. I am now considering bbPress but read on this forum that it may not work well with theme. Advise / suggestions appreciated.

Kriesi uses the bbpress forum software. It’s from the same developers who worked on wordpress and can share some informations with your wordpress database (i.e. user information). The disadvantage is that it doesn’t integrate well with your themes. At the moment there’s no plugin which allows you to simple integrate the forum on your site. The developer claim that they’re working on a better wordpress integration. Avisio is compatible with bbpress because bbpress isn’t integrated as a plugin into Avisio like Simple:Press is integrated. I won’t have any problems but you need to style the forum yourself if it should look like the other parts of your website…

I run a forum myself with WordPress on my website – I use the Simple:Press forum software which integrates nicely with WordPress and which has more features than bbpress. You can choose a template of your site where the forum should appear and the forum integrates well in your website layout. The disadvantage is that it’s more complex than bbpress and there’re only a handful of skins – the “dd2010” skin looks best in my eyes. Simple:Press community is alive and it receives updates every 2 or 3 weeks.

    The Dude

Thanks Dude. A new bbPress true plugin is expected in the next couple of weeks so I will wait to see if that is sweet.
