First, thanks for designing such a great theme, my favorite so far.

I had no problems with the development copy. Everything worked fine there, including the tabs under the slider,

sadly, the tabs are not coming up in the live site home page (sandiego-webmaster.com).

I tried all main browsers (FF, Safari, Opera, etc) and I can’t see the tabs on any of them.

Just to make sure, I tested a new copy and the tabs work fine in it.

Oh, yeah, I also made sure I selected the pages I want to display in the Main Page Options page.

I will appreciate your time to answer about this.

    What’s the site URL?

Have you created your own pages from scratch or installed the dummy content and edited the page?

Please make sure the page has content (unlikely that it doesn’t but would cause this issue if it didn’t).

    Hi James,

    the URL is http://sandiego-webmaster.com

    I created my own pages.

    The home page has content.

Thank you for looking into this.

Looking at the page source, you only have one page set to display on the front page – hence no tabs will show up. Try adding another page and let me know if you still have this issue.

That’s funny, because in the back admin, in the Avisio Mainpage Options, I have four more pages selected. Are these the ones you are telling me about? I just changed them to 4 different pages, just to see if they would change, but no effect took place in the home page of the site. I also checked different browsers with same result.

Can any one check on this issue, please?

Any ideas why this could be happening?

I turned off all plugins to see if any plugin was causing the problem, but the problem persists…

    Support staff…?????

Please be patient when anticipating a response. Messages are answered in the order received and we deal with around 150 different support requests through this forum and by email daily.

Can you set me up a WordPress admin account, and email the details (including the URL) to: support {at} jamesmorrisondesign {dot} com with the subject:

Kriesi | Avisio | Beatriz | Tabbed Pages Under Slider Not Showing Up

and I’ll take a look into this.

    Hi James,

Just wondering if you got the emails (one, directly from my site after creating your account from my site, and mine telling you about it.

I have been trying to figure out the issue, but no luck. I even re-created the site (http://sandiego-webmaster.com/sdws/) to check my own steps, the tabs work fine in the copy site!, but cannot make them work on my root site =( ….

Hey, just found your email – somehow you got spam filtered…

I’ve had a look at your site and can’t see any obvious reason why the tabs won’t load. I suggest re-uploading the theme files, failing that you may need to reinstall the site (export your custom content to reimport to the new database).

You may also want to have a look at reducing the number of plugins you’re using – every one you activate slows the site down a bit.

I’ve been able to reproduce this problem on one of my test installs of this theme…I’m not sure yet what caused it, still trying to research that…stay tuned

Thank you so much for checking James.

I am aware about the number of plugins and slowing down a site.

Unfortunately, maintaining the balance between editor and anti-SPAM plugins is one of the main

issues I face daily. But I am working on it =).

Thank you tonvie for looking into this because right when I was getting myself ready to transfer a copy from the test site, all of a sudden, the tabs appeared under the slider. The thing is that, if for example, I add another tab, one of the published tabs disappears. In other words, I am not sure this is fixed, although I am happy that at least there’s some working.

The whole point of buying this template was to be able to give further support to landing page advertisements, and the tabbed pages were perfect for that.

I’ll be certainly looking for your progress into this.

    Hi James,

the tabs under the slider on my website just disappeared again. (http://sandiego-webmaster.com)

First last two of four, and then the other two remaining.

The things I have changed were to turn off as many plugins as possible (26 active total, still more than I want, thou not enough to make any of the other templates I have used for this website as slow to load to the browsers as this one, which Alexa still reports as “Very Slow (4.242 Seconds), 90% of sites are faster.” First time ever! ).

In an effort to speed up the loading time of the site, I also changed the main Stylesheet (style.css) for a crunched/minimized version, I did this change a few days ago, and the website continued to work without any visible problem, until today.

What I have checked on so far:

I turned on and off my plugins, one by one, no change.

Transferred full copy from the sub-folder test-copy (http://sandiego-webmaster.com/sdws/) to the root folder

Transferred full DB copy from the working sub-folder db

Changed/tested many combination of title tabs to possibly appear in the tabbed section under the slider.

Something new (I am not sure if possibly related or not), that I been noticing for the last few days:

In checking for spammer trails in the “Who’s been Online” stats, I did notice the following “Last URL visited” string from many of the visitors trails:

I been using the minimized version of the site, and since that image is not in folder “skin2” (assuming that is part of what makes it “minimized”) I started using the “Default version to see if anything would change. It didn’t.

Please feel free to tell me If I should start a separate post for this issue.

I am adding it here only because is part of the “weird” things happening with this theme.

The funny thing is, that opposite to the experience of some people looking for support here, I was able to install and customize the site without any single problem. Everything going on with it, started after I thought I was done! Hu!

Tonvie, have you possibly found any fix to the tabs?

    Hi Beatriz,

I’m still working on the tabs…the situation I’m in is that the tabs do not work on the domain I’ve put real time and effort into building pages…like you, weird things are now starting to happen now that my site is almost done. The tabs work fine on a clean install without installing the dummy data. I’ve not gotten further in troubleshooting than that but here’s the most recent problem and I will post this in a separate post but here goes:

After adding about 20 pages and getting pretty far with building the site, I am finally ready to add some nice photos to the homepage slideshow.

First, after adding the first picture, the captions or descriptions didn’t display. I’m thinking great, I wonder what this bug is…but after adding a second picture to the slideshow, the description on the first slideshow picture magically started working…so I consider that one bug. Then, I notice that after adding pictures to the slideshow for the first time, some of my theme settings were automatically reset such as my homepage text went back to the default text and also my contact page settings were lost and went back to the default. Can’t say if this is a wordpress or theme bug but there’s defnitely some unexplained wackiness that needs to be looked into.

I visited your website with firefox 3.6 and newest Safari and I could see all tabs Beatriz. Screenshot:

I would suggest that you use shorter headlines for the tabs – maybe the content is too long and so some tabs disappear.

    The Dude

    Hi Dude,

I believe that you visited the test site (http://sandiego-webmaster.com/sdws/), not the root site (http://sandiego-webmaster.com).

    Am I right?

I still can’t see the tabs on my site; I have tested with long and short titles.

Yes you’re right – sorry for that.

The question is what’s the difference between them? What settings did you change? What’s the difference between development version and the live version?

I looked at the source code and the main problem is that only one tab content is generated by wordpress. So even if you chose 4 pages in the backend only one tab/page is generated. I can only find a div called “fptab_content tab1” which indicates that tab2 and tab3, etc. were not generated by WP.

    The Dude

I have described all changes I have done to the site a couple of answers above, right before ‘tonvies’ last comment.

There’s no difference between my site and the test version.

I am sorry Dude, but your comments are of no use to find a possible solution.

You say: “I looked at the source code and the main problem is that only one tab content is generated by wordpress. ” So?

What am I supposed to do with that? How is that pertinent to finding a possible solution?

    I have re-installed WP 3.1 twice

You say: ” So even if you chose 4 pages in the backend only one tab/page is generated. I can only find a div called “fptab_content tab1″ which indicates that tab2 and tab3, etc. were not generated by WP.” And?

Nothing personal Dude, and thank you for trying to help, and will continue to appreciate it, but…

I have to say that at I am finding the available support for this theme the worst I have found for any theme I have ever bought from ThemeForest. In fact, I have never had so many issues (inherent, or created) with any other theme I have bought at ThemeForest.

The lack of of solution almost two weeks after posting the issue, makes the whole deal worst. It gives the impression that you are is reaching too much and far without the proper support strategy.

What I believe: If you would be using the ThemeForest website, and If this issue would have been posted in the ThemeForest website forum for the theme, I bet this would have been taken care of by now. Why? because most often than not, people make a decision about buying a theme or not, judging by the kind of issues people are finding and how fast are those issues being taken care of, but only for the last 2 or 3 pages of responses, (talking about the way TF shows comments) because we are all busy with a trillion things to do! So, if the answers seem right And if the theme looks as promising as this one, we are sold.

I love this theme, I still want to use it, but using “Yslow” and FireBug’s pagespeed I have found so many bugs and issues with this theme, that… like these:

74.5% of the JavaScript loaded by this page had not been invoked by the time the onload handler completed.

So much unused CSS for the home page: 45.8% of CSS (estimated 26.4kB of 57.7kB) is not used by the current page.

and so many very inefficient rules: http://sandiego-webmaster.com/wp-content/themes/avisio/style.css has 18 very inefficient rules, 65 inefficient rules, and 9 potentially inefficient uses of :hover out of 269 total rules.”

that I am starting to wonder if I am really going to be able to keep it. And I DO want to keep using it. I still believe that the theme’s concept is The best ever.

I can certainly understand your frustration Beatriz. This is the fourth theme I’ve purchased from Themesforest and this is by far the theme I’ve had the most trouble with. I, like you, appreciate the help I’ve gotten here but somehow expected more…I’ve held off on giving a rating in hopes things will improve. I know that this isn’t kriesi’s only job but if you’re going to sell anything to 500 plus people, the support needs to be there regardless if this is a hobby to you or not.

I disagree with you though on using this forum to support the theme. I think that’s the one thing Kriesi did right. Much better to have support here where you can help others and also search threads.

I find your last paragraph about javascript/css very interesting. The way things load in this theme simply have to be causing the problem that no one else here can reproduce (read more link on home page moves up and down based on refreshing the browser). This problem only manifests itself on a faster server. As load times change with the theme, something loads before something else should and causes this strange problem…that’s my hunch anyway.

So back to your initial problem, I say if any problem is able to be reproduced by 2 people, it needs to be a priority. So…I didn’t want to give out the URL to my test site but in the hopes of getting this problem taken seriously, here it is:

Here’s your 2nd tabs not working site guys, let’s act like people’s jobs are on the line here folks…cause they are!

    Thanks tonvie,

I am glad that you understand the main source of my frustration: “let’s act like people’s jobs are on the line here folks…cause they are! “

My job is on the line because of this theme’s issues and the time I have put already trying to find what’s going on with it; so many hours trying to make it work only because it’s the perfect theme for my marketing purposes, which are on hold because of the tabs! This is my main business site, the one Main business tool I have to acquire new clients and demo what can be done with WP.

As for the results I am showing, I used Firebug and YSlow (Speed Yahoo tool) to detect the reason for the slow loading of the page.

None of the themes I have used before have been rated so slow. Unfortunately, what those tools suggest as solutions goes way beyond what any developer should be busy doing to make a template work. How do you sell a lemon (so far)? Again, I LOVE the concept. It’s the ‘delivery’ what is lacking for this theme.

I have to disagree with you guys. The support on this theme is beyond the call of duty. These themes are sold as is for almost nothing. There is no obligation for the developers to provide customization support or server support. (read the themeforest agreement you agreed to) Yet the guys here answer this stuff daily; beyond what they need to; cause Im sure they want everyone to be happy, and take pride in their work..

I know I’ll get flamed for this; but if your business and customers rely on you investing a whopping $40 on a canned theme; you might want to re-examine your business model. Claiming your job is on the line because you arent getting support on this theme is just silly.

The theme works very well; and of all the themes Ive tried is the most stable, most well documented, and very well supported.

There’s no need for flaming. There’s room for all opinions I’m pretty sure…

    Let’s dissect your argument…

    1) “Sold for almost nothing”…you mean sold for roughly the same price as other templates like at templatemonster.com where there’s 24/7 support and even a money back guarantee? Look, if I buy anything for any price, I expect it to work. By your logic, I guess I shouldn’t expect a 50 dollar wordpress shopping cart plugin to be fully functional either…

    2) “There’s no obligation for the developers to provide customization support…”…Very true…however, they’d never make sale 1 if they didn’t. The bar has already been set by other developers at themesforest thus the support here will obviously be measured by the support of the best over there.

    3) This particular issue is not server support, nor is it customization…it’s a feature that does not work. Is that acceptable for you?

    4) “If your business and customers rely on you investing a whopping 40 dollars…”. I invest 5 dollars per month in hosting fees for one website…that’s cheap…Is it ok then if my website goes down all the time? Flawed logic again…if there’s a listed feature on the side of a box, wouldn’t you expect it to work? Tabs is a listed feature and it doesn’t work for at least 2 of us…I rest my case.

Sorry if you feel not meeting a deadline due to a listed feature not functioning is a trivial thing and “silly”, then you have better and more understanding clients than we do. Congrats.

The theme has over 400 users. The tabs dont work for 2. The logical conclusion is its an environment problem.

Its a unfair for you to claim poor support of this theme; it is simply not true.

I have no vested interest in this theme or the author; except for the fact that I am using it myself. But I know good work when I see it.

You can’t assume it works for all 400 plus…to assume that everyone is even using tabs on the home page would be more flawed logic.

To state that anything is a fact such as the support here is great is again subjective. Don’t try to tell me my criticism is unfair. Is it anymore fair to be stuck with a product that doesn’t fully work? That’s what I thought…

I’ve experimented with various setups of this theme regarding tabs and have tried several different installs / configurations to try to find out what is going on. Unfortunately, I can’t reproduce this error.

@tonvie Any chance you could give me access to the WP install you can’t get the tabs to work on? Can you send me an email at support {at} jamesmorrisondesign {dot} com with the subject:

Kriesi | Avisio | tonvie | Tabbed Pages Under Slider Not Showing Up

and I’ll try to figure out what’s going on.

@beatriz: I’m sorry you feel that the support we offer is “the worst I have found for any theme I have ever bought from ThemeForest“. Believe me, this issue is something I’ve tried to reproduce / debug and I spent a fair amount of time looking through your site and settings to try and work out a solution. When I find one, you’ll be the first to know.

Couple of quick questions for everyone having this problem:

1.) Was this a fresh install / upgrade from older version?

2.) How did you upload the theme – FTP or WordPress’ theme installer?

3.) Who’s your webhost and is it shared / VPS / dedicated / cloud hosting you have?

I’m trying to work out a correlation of when this bug occurs and what is common among the installations having this problem.

Hey James, yeah I downloaded the theme last night, and am having a problem with the tabs as well. When I just have one page set up for the tabs, the page appears on the front page (and no tab would be needed), but when I set up more than one page, no page appears and neither do the tabs.

To answer your questions to help you figure out a correlation:

1.) This was the first time I downloaded/installed this theme, but the site I am using with the theme (http://blogitstudios.com) did have content on it already from a previous theme.

2.) I uploaded the theme via FTP.

3.) My webhost is HostGator, and I believe it is shared.

Thank you for trying to figure this out! I really appreciate it.

    Hi James,

To answer your questions for my site:

    1) This was a fresh install a couple weeks ago.

    2) I uploaded the theme through dreamweaver and manually created the DB. (did not load dummy data)

    3) I use Hostgator VPS.

That eases my mind notloc27 that you just have a standard, shared hostgator account. This is the first time I’ve used a VPS account and didn’t know if maybe there were different environment variables or what (but again, no other wordpress theme exhibits any problems).

Thanks for any help with this James…and my admin username/password is on it’s way…

    Hi James,

    1. this was a WP upgrade from 2.9 to 3.0 and then 3.1

    2. I uploaded the theme via FTP

    3. My Webhost is Duoservers/SanDiegoWebmaster (reseller), shared host.

Thank you for continuing to help.

Oh and my site was a WP upgrade from 2.(x) to 3.1

Hello James, and those affected by this issue,

    I just noticed this:

I changed the “Reading” options in the Reading Settings of the WP admin to make them just like the ones I have

on the test website (No option for “Page’ or ‘Blog’) and 3 of the tabs came up. When I changed the tabs in the ‘Main Page’ options for this theme, to see what effect that could have, I only got the first tab coming up. I changed them again (different titles) and got back the first tab, and then changed again the next/following tabs and I only got one more tab coming up for a total of two.

Maybe you want to check on that and see what you get.

Thanks for letting me know, will continue investigating and let you all know when there is a solution.

    Best regards,
