    Is there a way to get standard Featured images to work for the Blog?

    The Gallery is to complex for the users i have that will be maintaining the blog and there does not seem to be a way to use the Gallery Upload for the featured image (for the post thumbnail, etc.) without dropping some sort of gallery somewhere.

    I just want to be able to set a Featured Image, without having to have a gallery on a blog post.

    The standard Featured Image Metabox would make the most sense to users.

    Hi Michael,

    Not without a good bit of customization to the way the Blog pages handle images. The only way for the theme to process images and use them in the layout is to use the Gallery Upload button and create your gallery that way.

    That’s the point, though. For blog posts, a gallery is not always wanted.

    Is there a way to just use the Gallery Upload button to upload the image, using it as the featured image, but NOT displaying a gallery in the post at all?

    It seems there should just be a gallery layout option of None.

    That way you could still upload an image to use as a featured image for the post’s thumbnail, but not have it show with the post itself if you don’t want it to.

    This solution is not conventional but it is working. What about using a unique category for some posts that you don’t want to show a gallery or slider? For example, you can add “No Slider” category for a specific post then you can edit includes > loop-index.php, find this code

    if(is_single() && strpos($avia_config['layout'],'thumb') !== false )

    Replace it with

    if(is_single() && !in_category( 'No Slider' ) && strpos($avia_config['layout'],'thumb') !== false )

    Each post with the “No Slider” category will not render the gallery or slider. You can try it out.

    Hi Ismael,

    This sounds like something that is interesting for me too… I am struggling with the same problem in flashlight theme. I don’t want to show the gallery image (used as a sorth of featured image.) in the post itself..

    You suggest to add a category No Slider, but I use the portfolio categories.. do I add the php code in loops-index.php in the same way or are the portflolio categories different from the normal post categories? regards, Marja

    Hi Marja,

    Yes, the portfolio items are different. I’m not sure why you would want to have a portfolio item with no images in it however as then it wouldn’t really have any content.

    A bit more simple approach would be to add css to hide the images on the individual portfolio pages.Try adding the following CSS to your Quick CSS (located under the Styling Tab in the theme options) or the custom.css file in the css folder of your theme files:

    #top.single-portfolio .slideshow_container {
    display: none;
