I am having trouble understanding how to use shortcodes.

There is no list of shortcodes in documentation. It advices to use the “magic wand button” but I can’t find that anywhere?

I have the latest version of WordPress and Shoutbox with no modifications.

Am I missing something? Maybe we could get a list of all shortcodes so that they could be used manually?

    Thanks :)

Go into your WP dashboard and create or edit a page or post. The large grey control panel that opens to let you type in the content has many little icons along the top of it. The last one on the top line is the magic wand. Click that, and it opens the shortcode dropdown menu. Click the shortcode that you need and WP will insert the code directly into your post. Then you just put your text content between the two square (start/end shortcode) brackets and watch what happens.

    Hey, thanks for the reply.

Yeah that’s what I figured, problem is I am not seeing those little icons in there…

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1910104/add_post-screenshot.png

It’s because you have it set to the HTML view. You need to click the other tab at the top right of the control panel that says “Visual”.

Thanks rumblefish for helping us out :)

Thanks! Turned out I had “Disable visual editor when writing” enabled in my personal user profile, because a theme I used previously required this. So WP didn’t show me the visual / html tabs.

Glad it’s all good now :)
