    I’m working on http://www.feline-soul.net/clients/wp_slacc/businesses/
    When you look at the page, you’ll get an .htaccess login. The user is sandbox the password is showme.

    The “Businesses” menu items shows all portfolio items. I have “Portfolio Sortable” and “Portfolio Pagination” set to “yes”.

    The category listings show up on the last page and things are sorted in reverse order. I can’t find a switch to fix that.

    What seems to be the case is that the pages themselves are showing in reverse order.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Bearcat!

    You can change the sort order with this function: http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/ (Purchase code hidden if logged out) -portfolio-elements/

    Thanks Devin. I tried this but nothing changed. To be clearer, it seems that it’s not just the item sorting that’s off, it’s that the pages are in the wrong order. The category header is on the last page instead of the first. Click on “Businesses” and you’ll see the problem.

    Here’s my functions.php:

    * Change the sort order of portfolio items
    function custom_post_grid_query( $query, $params ) {
    $query[‘orderby’] = ‘title’;
    $query[‘order’] = ‘ASC’;
    return $query;
    add_filter ( ‘avia_post_grid_query’, ‘custom_post_grid_query’, 10, 2);

    I don’t know what the “10” and “2” signify, but nothing changes for the item or page order. This is due in 2 days so any help is very appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Thank you for the update.

    Did you recently update to WP 3.9? After the wordpress upgrade, did you update the theme to the latest version?

    Yes. This is a brand new site. I started the site on 3.9.1 and Coherence 1.7.1 when i created it. At one point the things were sorted correctly. I’m not sure when they fell apart, but that code makes no change at at all to the portfolio listing.

    I’m not sure if this is what you mean but if you are trying to make the sorting pull items that are not currently visible on the page that is unfortunately not possible.

    The sorting links at the top of any portfolio *page* can only sort what is visible at that time. So a user needs to go to other actual pages to where other items are located in order to sort those visible items.

    See here for reference: http://www.feline-soul.net/clients/wp_slacc/businesses/

    Somehow, after adding more items the problem of the categories only appearing on the last page has fixed itself.

    There are still two issues left.
    1) i’m still confused about sorting. Are you saying that if i have
    weasle, dog, cat, bird, antelope zebra, snake, rat as porfolio items:

    rat, dog, cat antelope appear on the first page
    zebra, snake, bird and weasle appear on the second page

    it will be sorted one page at a time, so i’ll see “antelope, cat, dog rat” on page one and “bird, snake, weasle, zebra” on page two?

    Or will i have “antelope, bird, cat, dog” on page one and “rat, snake, weasle, zebra” on page two.

    and i still don’t get what determines the sorting order initally. It’s not alphabetical or by entry date.

    2) Many of the categories don’t go anywhere. You click them and there are no results, even though i *know* they match category names.

    Thank you for your patience.

    When you view any single page of portfolio items the sorting will only sort the currently *visible* items on the page. If you can’t actually see the item before clicking the category name then sorting it will not make it appear.

    The category names will still be shown but if one of theme doesn’t have a currently visible item then clicking on it will not make it appear.

    Oh! I see. Is that by design or is it a bug/workaround?

    I’d be willing to bet that any user i asked who clicked on the overall portfolio “businesses” page would click on “timber” and expect to filter on all the timber businesses even if i’d limited it to 10 businesses per page.

    So, unless you have it set to show “all” on the portfolio settings the category links are going to confuse people and be nearly useless.

    Its a limitation of the sorting script used with all of Kriesi’s themes. Otherwise the script would be doing a full query for each sorting option selected which gets pretty slow and ends up being poor user experience.

    What users typically do is show more items per page so that there will be at least a few of each category shown.
