Hi I have read another topic here: https://kriesi.at/support/topic/permalink-page-not-found that is the same problem I’m having.
As soon as I change the permalink to “Post Name” none of the normal pages work. They just bring up a 404 page not found. These pages don’t even work in page preview from the wp admin panel.
I tried all the fixes you mentioned in the post and none of them work:
– Tried all of the options for permalinks, the one I want to work is post name, but none apart from the default one work.
– Reloaded that page numerous times and gone back and forth between permalink options.
– Turned off my plugins.
– Changed the slug in the Portfolio tab so it’s not the same as anything else on the site.
The site I’m working on is currently under construction but I can set up a temporary account for you to get access to if you’d like.
Any help you can give me with this would be great. Thanks.June 28, 2012 at 3:52 pm #80377
I have just discovered another problem. I have selected the greyscale option for the thumbnails from the Portfolio section on the homepage. This is working although the image before you mouseover the image is a completely different size. I can’t find anyone else with this problem but I added the dummy content when I first uploaded the theme and it has been like that since the start.
Thanks again.June 28, 2012 at 5:15 pm #80378
For the permalinks, deactivate the theme and use one of the default wordpress ones (twenty eleven for example), Check if the the permalink settings work then as the issue is most likely server related.
You can then troubleshoot based on the wordpress codex here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Fixing_Permalink_Problems
For the thumbnail issues, try regenerating your thumbnails with: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I had already tried reloading one of the other themes and just did it now again to check and the permalinks still don’t work.
And I had done to same thing regenerating the thumbnails, and just retried it there but still to no avail.
Let me know if you have any other ideas or I can set you up a temporary admin account.

Sometimes permalink change won’t work on the first try. You have to redo it more than once before it will take effect.

I’ve tried the permalinks numerous times. I’ve tried every option and nothing except the default works.

I’ve discovered the problem with the thumbnails. The size requirements for the portfolio item are width=465, height=346 and then the greyscale will work. Any bigger or smaller and they won’t work correctly.July 3, 2012 at 6:31 pm #80383
If the permalinks are not working when trying other themes, it is probably with something server side. Try the troubleshooting tips from the wordpress codex on the issue as there isn’t anything we are able to do to help at this point.
