    I would like to do 2 things

    1. Change when the Read More buttons are used

    2. Change the Read More text to something else like “Watch Video” if needed

    Please let me know.

    I got almost the same question.

    How can I customize the read more buttons?

    How to change the text is not the problem.

    Just search in the directory of the theme in all files for the String “Read more” and change the tekst in any string you like.

    But how do I change the colors for the different situations (active, mouseover, etc.)?

    Would be great if you guys could help us out here!

    Many thanx in advance.

    I use firebug to find most of the stuff I’m looking for. Changing the button color would be in one of the style.css sheets for your theme. For the default clean cut theme in style1.css, I changed the colors on lines 210 and 215. But I think they control all the button colors at once. I imagine if you want them to be different, you’d have to separate the .categories, .comments, .more-link, etc, so they have their own colors on their own lines.

    Don’t know if that helps, but thanks for the heads up on the read more buttons. I’ll give it a shot.

    @jmillgraphics: Which pages do you want to change the “Read More” text on? There are quite a few references in the theme files depending on where you want to change this, the easiest way to do this is search the files (eg index.php / single.php etc) and use find & replace to change the text. Can you elaborate on “when the Read More buttons are used” (maybe with example)?

    @georg: In most cases, the code for active / rollover is already present in the theme CSS files (style.css / css/style1.css / css/style2.css etc) and can be updated here. Firebug works for hover / active states but can be trickier to find the precise code you need to change. If you want to add code which doesn’t already exist, you’d need to add the CSS to the file, if you need help with this can you give me a specific example?

    I wanted to change the Read More buttons to say Watch Video on the main page, but it would be nice to know how to change them and only add them to certain posts. Like I would like to take them off of the portfolio page because I only have videos there.

    I tried everything that was on this post: (Purchase code hidden if logged out)

    but I couldn’t get the Read More buttons to appear through the custom fields. I ended up just taking the Read More links off of the main page columns which is perfect for the client needs, but would have liked the custom field one to work also.

    I’m trying to get the titles to go to another site from the columns. I tried what it said to do here: (Purchase code hidden if logged out)

    but I can’t get it to work for the life of me. I took out the read me buttons which I like, but I just can’t get the custom field to work for me. I guess that’s what I’m trying to get at.

    Thanks for the tip.

    Just changed te colour-codes on line 210 and 215 and it works.

    It works everywhere and the mouseover and other situation works just fine.

    I say: Problem solved!

    @jmillgraphics It starts to get tricky when you want conditional variables involved (eg if post has a video have “Watch Video” instead of “Read More”) – the easiest way to do this is with custom fields.

    Just to give you a quick example, from archive.php:

    the_content(__('Read more »','cleancut'));

    could become:

    $video = get_post_meta($post->ID, "_video", true);
    if ($video) {
    the_content(__('Watch Video','clean-cut'));
    } else {
    the_content(__('Read more »','cleancut'));

    where the custom field called _video has content the “Watch Video” text would show up.

    Thank you for all your help.
