Hi, I’m a newbie to wordpress. I downloaded the angular theme and have managed to set it up exactly how I want but I’m struggling with Flashlight. All I want is a site that looks just like the live demo. Menus for Home, Gallery, Blog, Portfolio, Contact and Shop. I can set up the home page with a series of full screen images but I can’t make a 3 column portfolio or gallery. Is there a difference between the gallery and portfolio? When I add images, it adds them in the background at full screen, rather than a separate 3 column layout. Can anyone give me an idiots guide to how to set this up? I’ve tried importing the dummy information but that wouldn’t let me do anything either. HELP!

In order to create a Portfolio page, go to Pages > Add new. Then go to Theme Options > Portfolio > Which page should display the portfolio? > Select the newly created page. Select 3 columns. You can now add post on your Portfolio Items. Add images, descriptions etc.
You also need to edit Appearance > Menus then the new Portfolio page and the other mentioned pages like Shop and Contact.
For more details read the Flashlight documentation provided on your theme package. :)

Hi Ismael, thanks for the help.
Sorry but I still can’t get this to work correctly. I’ve installed a new theme, not imported the dummy data. Created a new page, named it Portfolio, added 6 images to the image gallery. Below I’ve selected it to show 3 column gallery. Published the page. Then gone to Theme Options > Portfolio > which page should be displayed as portfolio > portfolio. Portfolio columns > 3 columns. When I view the page, its says PORTFOLIO Nothing Found, Sorry, no posts matched your criteria. The only way I can get around this is to go to Theme Options > Portfolio > which page should be displayed as portfolio > leave this saying ‘select page’. Is this a bug in my version?!?! More than happy to let you view my site, even login as an administrator and check my settings.

Hi, I think I’ve managed to sort this out now thanks. One last thing. When I leave the mouse pointer over an image in the gallery, a pale yellow box appears with the description in it. This clashes with the description already there. My site is http://www.skipjumphop.co.uk Is there any way of disabling this pop up box?

Hi there I was wondering what steps I could use to have the thumbnail images in the portfolio different from the preview when clicked on. I have the “choics” theme. I dont want to start altering code if I dont have to :)July 19, 2012 at 6:37 am #81028
Try following: Go to Choices > Theme Options > Layout & Settings and scroll down to the “Slideshow behavior on overview pages” option. Select “Display only single image on overview pages and all slideshow images on single entries” by using the dropdown box.July 23, 2012 at 3:34 am #81029
hmmm doesnt seem to be working for me, so just to recap…. I would like to have the portfolio section setup in a sense that each portfolio item llisted has a thumbnail picture different from the preview.
Thanks in advanceJuly 23, 2012 at 9:15 pm #81030
Also I was wondering if it is possible to only the descriptions when the thumbnail is clicked? currently it shows the description under the thumbnail and most of the descriptions are different lengths, making it uneven and looking sloppyJuly 24, 2012 at 5:07 pm #81031
“Display only single image on overview pages and all slideshow images on single entries” is working for me. Thanks!July 24, 2012 at 7:21 pm #81032August 1, 2012 at 2:41 pm #81033
I didn’t want to start a brand new thread, because my issue is the same exact thing.
Except, I went and did all the directions you said – and it’s still not working properly.
I go to Theme Options>Portfolio> and choose my paged name “Portfolio” to be the page (there are only 3 choices, Welcome, Contact and Portfolio) and there are images in the gallery on the Portfolio page. But when I go to the page (even after clearing my cache, twice) it still gives me the error “sorry, no posts matching your criteria”
So now I’m just wondering what little box I forgot to tick or something. I’ve gone over it about 3 times.
Everything else works just fine so far — except the most important page lol :)August 1, 2012 at 2:51 pm #81034
Can you create a tempoary admin account for me to log in and take a look at your settings? I think that will be the quickest way to make sure everything is set up correctly and get you online and 100%. I’ll be doing support for the rest of the day so if you send it now I’ll be able to take a look shortly.
You can send the information to my email at DevinVinson (at) gmail.com. Make sure to include a link to this topic so that my spam filter doesn’t grab it :)

You’ll need to create your portfolio items by going to the tab labeled Portfolio Items and then creating a new one for each gallery of images. Those items are then loaded into the Portfolio page to be clicked on as in the demo here: http://kriesi.at/themes/flashlight/portfolio/
If you have any other questions let us know and definitely take a look at the theme documentation as it has some more step by step directions in it that should help.

If you notice, your instructions above in this very thread don’t say to do that.
You simply say to go to Pages> New Page and do it there. Then go to Theme Options>Portfolio> and choose the new page you created So… just sayin’
Thanks for this new instruction.August 1, 2012 at 3:21 pm #81038
You know how many times I’ve had to upload images? I like this theme but it could be more efficient if I uploaded my images to *one* directory so I don’t have to keep bloating my server.August 1, 2012 at 3:23 pm #81039August 1, 2012 at 3:26 pm #81040
Sorry for the mis-communication. We are so overly familiar with the process at this point it sometimes means we take the basics for granted.
If you have any other questions or issues just let us know :)

It’s still not working properly. I made the new “Portfolio Items” and uploaded 60+ images and only 1 shows.
I swear to god, if just something worked right out of the box with just once I’d die from surprise.August 1, 2012 at 3:51 pm #81042
Each portfolio item holds a gallery which you can see here: http://www.jensnap.com/?portfolio=portfolionew
The portfolio Page holds the individual items based on the categories and options you select in the theme options>portfolio.
Think of it like this: You want to show a portfolio of all your landscapes. Each of your landscape portfolio items has multiple images for the set. So your portfolio items would be Beach, Outdoors, Desert. Each of those individual Portfolio items have multiple images inside them in the gallery but can be sorted and loaded into a specific portfolio page only showing a single preview image.
I hope that helps a bit.
Quick edit: If you want to use the masonry gallery that you already have as your main portfolio, just change the link in your menu to point to that page and ignore the Portfolio page entirely.

This is not at all what your “Live Demo” shows.
I want people to click on Portfolio on the left side Menu and get the whole Portfolio… not another dang link they have to click again.August 1, 2012 at 4:14 pm #81044
Got it to work.
Should have been a little bit more exacting with your directions.
Create a Portfolio Item
Portfolio Items>Add New
Upload your images, save, update page
create your portfolio page – add images if you want different images for your background, etc
Flashlight Menu>Portfolio>Select Category>(category you chose)
Flashlight Menu>Portfolio>Select Page>Page you created
Go to Theme Options>Menu>Portfolio Items>Add To Menu
Check box for your Portfolio Item
Remove the “Page” you created that got automatically added to the Menu when you created it.
That’s what made it work properly. I added it for anyone searching up this problem in the future.August 1, 2012 at 4:46 pm #81045
