You can use custom.css, styles.css or Quick css in your child theme. No need to create custom.css actually.
The /wp-content/uploads/dynamic_avia/avia-merged-styles[..].css is used if you are using the option at Enfold Theme Options > Performance > JS & CSS file merging and compression
Often if someone adds css into their child theme style.css via WordPress > Appearance > Editor > Child Theme > Stylesheet and then checks their site it seems that the css is not working, this is because adding the css this way doesn’t rebuild the merged files to add the new css.
One way to resolve this is to disable the Performance > JS & CSS file merging and compression option until they are done developing the site, in the same way that it is not recommend in using a caching plugin until they are done developing the site, clearing cached css can be a pain sometimes.
Another option is to rebuild the merged files after adding css to the child theme styles file, this is done by clicking the blue “save all changes” button in the theme options, if this button is not clickable, then go the Enfold Theme Options > General Styling > Quick CSS field and add a blank space, this will activate the button so you can click it.
Then please clear your browser cache for the changes to take effect.

I hope you can help me. I have searched the Forums and cannot find a solution.
We I try to use the CSS Editor in my Enfold Theme, I simply get a grey page – no content, no side bar items (except Widgets).
See below :
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you please upload the screenshot to a service like Dropbox and give us the link here? We cannot see the screenshot.
Can you give us temporary admin access to your website in the private content box below, so that we can have a closer look?

Are you using the Customizer? The theme’s CSS field is located in the Enfold > General Styling panel. You can also add your css modifications in the child theme’s style.css file. Disable the Performance > File Compression settings temporarily or until the site is done.

I have CSS in the Customiser, in the General Styling panel and the style.css file. My plan is to copy it all into the style.css file however I cannot access the Customiser as I now simply get a grey screen with no content.
I followed your instructions and disabled File Compression and cleared my cache. Still no change in the Customiser. Any other ideas please?

I see some errors in the browser console but the scripts are compressed, so I’m not sure where it’s coming from. Please add this code in the wp-config.php file to disable the script concatenation:
define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false );

Are you asking about when you can turn on file compression? If so then it’s best to turn that off when you are actually done with the site, or if you have problems with CSS or JS, then you can select to delete the old files under Enfold->Performance.
