    I recently updated a site from 1.0.6 to 2.1 and I get a lot of widgets that I don’t want to see. I don’t find them under the widgets menu and can’t find a way to get rid of them. I’ve tried overwriting the old theme files and also installing the theme in another directory and I have the same problem.

    On the left sidebar I get Archives, Categories, and Pages. On the footer I get: Archive, Categories, Pages, Bookmarks, and then a custom text widget that is part of the old template.

    I’ve tried to update through Appearance -> Widgets and also through Appearance -> Themes -> Customize.

    Those are placeholder Widgets, Try placing an empty Text Widget in each of those Widget sections.

    Best regards,

    That does help remove the content, but I’m left with a blank sidebar column to the left of my main content. How can I remove that?

    Same goes for the footer columns. You can see that there are 5 columns where some content would go.

    The prior template eliminates these place holders.

    You can disable the sidebar per Page by setting it as a FullWidth Page –

    To hide the footer completely, add this to Quick CSS:

    div#footer {
        display: none;

    Best regards,
