    Dear Support Team,

I have recently updated the php version pf my website via .htaccess to x-httpd-opcache-php7.4 .php

After doing so the following happened.

    1) At least 1 content block (last one on the page) disappeared in the front-end and also in the Enfold Layout Builder, simply gone.

    2) Another content block (chapter “5 typische Fehler” )was visible in the front end AND also in the Builder, BUT when I wanted to edit the text element in the block it showed me an empty text area saying “please add content here”. After I changed the font-size from default (17px) to 16px, the text and the images that used to be in the text element (and also showing at front-end) showed up in the builder and were editable.

Does this have to do with the php update? Do you know where the problem is coming from and how i can solve it?

    Kind regards,
    Christian

    Hey Seoardilla,

Sorry for the problem. First off, could you try updating the theme to the latest version (4.7.5) to see if that helps please? https://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/how-to-install-enfold-theme/#theme-update.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard,
I have updated the theme manually as eplained in the documentation. I only replaced the main enfold theme. I assume that I don’t have to change the child theme…
The issues I was talking about is gone now (great!), however i get a couple of error messages since updating the theme. I don’t know if this is related to any plugin or if it has to do with the new Enfold Version. See info below.

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update. I can’t see any error messages on your, are you seeing them in the log file? If the should continue then do you have a possibility to downgrade your PHP version to test if that is the problem? If so then please try 7.2 or 7.3.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard,

you could not see any error message on my end? Honestly I don’t feel qualified enough to check log files. Yes, I could downgrade the php-version again via htaccess, but ideally I would like to use the most up-to-date php version to get the best performance.

I have attached down below the complete warning message that I received. Hopefully this gives you some more insights. Since this message I have not received any other messages.

Should I still downgrade my php version?

    Kind regards
    Christian

    Hi Christian,

Thanks for the info. Did you get the email in question only once, or does it keep on coming frequently?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard.

I have not received any other mail since then. Just the one that I sent to you in the private text field.

    Kind regards

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. If it only came once, and if you can’t see anything which is wrong on the site, then it might just have been temporary. Could you keep an eye out for anything suspicious, and let us know if something should go wrong?

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard,
yes I will keep an eye open. However I am bit worried that -although I don’t see anything going wrong- there might be some security issue because of this.

Also I got the following message from my hoster yesterday:

`This error is an indication that the website is not compatible with PHP 7.4.
We therefore recommend that you first reset the PHP version to the previously saved version.

After the server has made the changeover, which normally takes about 15 minutes, the page should be accessible again. Before a new version change, however, the compatibility must first be established, for this you would have to contact the manufacturer of the theme used.

The website should be compatible though. I have checked again the name of the file where the error originated (see private content)

    Take care

    Chris

    Hi Christian,

Thanks for the update. If you should experience any further problems then maybe you could try to downgrade the PHP version to 7.3? The theme is compatible with 7.4, but there might be local problems like in your case.

The LayerSlider is bundled with the theme, yes. If don’t use it then you can try to turn it off under Enfold->Layout Builder to see if that makes any difference.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

    Hello Rikard,

interestingly this problem took a new turn just today.

What happened? I updated the enfold theme on my current live-website from 4.5.x to 4.7.6 (before I was referring to the staging-website) and I got an error message again (see private message).

These are information about what my live-website is running on currently:

    WordPress-Version 5.4.2
Current Theme: Enfold Child (Version 1.0)
    Aktuelles Plugin: (Version )
    PHP-Version 7.0.33

    Hi,

Thanks for the update. Does this happen on the staging site as well? If so then please try to activate the parent to see if the problem is coming from your child theme. If that is the case then please try to remove all customisations in functions.php and the templates you are overriding, then add them back one by one to see which function or template override is causing the problem.

    Best regards,
    Rikard

Hi Rikard, thanks I will try that, I happens on staging and live. Although the error seems to be in different files/code lines.

Will let you know what the result was.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hello Rikard,

I tried what you suggested and after changing from Child-> Main Theme & switching back from Main-> Child I did not get any error notice.

After changing the themes I did some clicks in the WordPress Editor and also surfed the page itsself. Still no error message via email. Now it seems as if everything is working fine, although there must be a problem of some kind, right?

What would you suggest me to do?

    Kind regards

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Great, I’m glad to hear that things are back working again. I can’t tell you why though unfortunately, but sometimes just toggling themes and or plugins can help. Maybe you could continues to work as usual and keep you eyes open, and let us know if you should encounter any further problems?

    Best regards,
    Rikard
