Please flush browser cache and refresh your page a few times. It does work fine on my end. Just to make sure that we are on the same page, you would like to decrease the padding between main menu items, is that correct?

Are you using Enfold?
If you would like to use shortcodes inside shortcodes, you can enable debugging mode to see shortcodes you have creating in pages using Advanced Layout Builder – http://kriesi.at/documentation/enfold/enable-advanced-layout-builder-debug/
You can switch to Default Editor and click on Magic Wand to see full list of shortcodes http://i.imgur.com/n4KXkdm.jpg
then you can create any of them and copy/paste shortcode into any other content element or into text widget.Cheers!
