Well, you need to update the theme, and if your developer made some changes and you don’t have the child theme running the changes may have been overwritten or will overwrite when you update the theme. I cannot see the issue at the moment as you downgraded. You might want to get the testing website and update there first and see how things work over there and then update the live website.
